Brock Purdy led the San Francisco 49ers to the playoffs in the 2022-23 season. Only to injure his throwing arm which led to them exiting the NFC Championship game. Then last season, he took them to the Super Bowl, only to lose out to a game-altering decision that had nothing to do with his performance.

Even then, he is not given the credit he deserves. Former tight end Greg Olsen had an interesting take on this matter. He was approached by NBC Sports Bay Area reporter Jennifer Lee Chan during last week’s Tight End University.

It's just pretty remarkable what he's been able to accomplish in such a short period of time. I think people don't give him enough credit for what he does, because he’s at the mercy of the talented guys around him and I don’t think it should be used against him...They’re not winning in spite of him, they're winning a lot of times because of him...The stars they have, I think sometimes people hold it against him. I think that's a huge mistake.

Greg Olsen said

Olsen knows most people dismiss Purdy’s work on the football field because of the talent around him. But suggests that those who study will know that he is incredible at what he does.

Greg Olsen suggested that once a person sits down and analyses what Brock Purdy does, it will be clear that he has the talent to take them forward. He may not be exciting like other quarterbacks are, but he has the tools to do the job he has in front of him.

Going to two NFC Championship games back-to-back with Purdy behind the line is not easy. Many great quarterbacks have not been able to do so.

Brock Purdy has complete off-season to develop into an elite quarterback

Even after what Greg Olsen said, if anybody has any more criticisms, Brock Purdy has the chance to prove them wrong. In his 3 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, this is the first time he is getting the chance to develop his game in the off-season. Which means, countless reps with the receivers, running backs and tight ends. All in a bid to improve his play.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan is already impressed with what he is seeing from his young signal caller in the OTAs and minicamp. If Mr. Irrelevant makes those strides as his head coach has seen, then the NFL world will be able to see a much-improved Brock Purdy as the next season progresses.

Last season, without any off-season to develop, the young quarterback threw for 4280 yards. With the work he is putting in this time around, who knows what the number will be? Maybe then and another trip to the Super Bowl, and his critics will give him the flowers he deserves.
