The Hornets forward claimed to have bought the 2018-19 Panini National Treasures NBA Basketball Hobby Box for $10,500. He opened the box at Fanatics Fest in New York and pulled out a rare Luka Doncic card worth at least $100,000.
In a viral video on social media, posted by Darren Rovel, Williams claimed that Friday was his first day collecting the basketball cards. On his first purchase, the former Celtics forward unpacked a Jayson Tatum high-rate Prism Auto card, followed by an Acetate seven out of 10 Anthony Edwards.
Grant Williams To Give Luka Doncic First Chance
An hour after the video went viral, Grant claimed he had already received offers of $300k on the spot. Despite such lucrative offers, Williams has held the star card to see if the Dallas Mavericks guard and his former teammate has a better deal.
He quoted the Rovel’s video and wrote, “Offered 300k on the spot. Gotta give my brother LD a chance first tho.”
In the video, Williams stated, “I said I’ve got to give Luka first right to refusal, just because he would buy this for like a million, I bet. I FaceTimed him twice, he didn’t pick up. He’s in Slovenia right now. So he’ll call me back, and I’ll talk to him about it because this is absurd.”
After being selected 22nd overall in 2019 by the Boston Celtics, Grant Williams played four seasons with the C’s, averaging 6.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 288 games. In the 2023 offseason, the Mavericks signed Williams in a 4-year, $54 million deal.
However, his stint with the Mavericks was short, as he was traded mid-season to the Charlotte Hornets. Williams averaged 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists at Dallas in 47 games. He played 29 games for the Hornets last season and averaged his career-high 13.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. It will be interesting to see what Hornets’ Grant Williams brings to the court in the 2024-25 season.
