Washington Capitals fans are concerned for veteran forward Alex Ovechkin’s final seasons following candid photos revealing the player’s summer weight gain.

Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals had an unusual year in the NHL. Following a streak of poor production in the first half of the season, the veteran forward was able to make enough of a comeback to finish the regular season with 65 total points in the 79 genes he played. However, despite narrowly clinching a playoff spot, the player could not score a single point against the New York Rangers, who went on to sweep the series.

“How I’m sleeping tonight knowing that not only did the Rangers sweep the capitals, but that Matt Rempe had more goals this series than Ovechkin.”

Yet, Ovechkin’s inability to score in the playoffs this year is not the greatest concern to Washington Capitals fans. Recently, a candid photo of the player with his tennis buddies surfaced on X, which reveals the player’s noticeable weight gain.

“Ovi out there having a big back summer oh my god 😂

Unsurprisingly, users had a field day with this picture. Many to the opportunity to poke fun at the player, while others shared concerns that he will be unsuccessful in the NHL this year.

Added weight on an already hefty player could pose an issue in success on the ice. This also comes less than a week after Ovechkin’s hatred for training season mas publicized.

“Alex Ovechkin on summer training:

‘You go to training, then rest, then another training. I hate it, I can’t stand it.’

…Ovi’s still catching Gretzky, right?’

With two years left on his contract and only 42 goals away, Alex Ovechkin still has a clear shot at breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal-scoring record in the NHL. Hopefully, his activities this summer will not impede his ability to do so.
