Brock Purdy might not have the most supporters in the league, but the ones he has are louder than his critics. One such supporter is former NFL player Matt Hasselbeck, who showered the quarterback with high praises for his on-field activities.

There has been a boatload of debates on whether the second-year quarterback deserves the credit for the San Francisco 49ers’ run for the Super Bowl last season or was it their star-studded offense all along. When asked longtime NFL signal-caller at Tight End University, he replied by expressing his confidence in the quarterback and why he considers him a real deal.

Brock Purdy is a baller. People say, ‘Oh he doesn’t have ‘wow’ throws.’ B.S. Turn the tape on. That guy has ‘wow’ throws. He’s a great quarterback. I know he might not win a combine competition or whatever, but he would win a quarterback competition in my mind. I think he’s a great player.

Mike Hasselbeck told NBC Sports Bay Area

As someone who spent 17 seasons acing the NFL, Hasselbeck knows the traits required for that position and he believes the 49ers’ star QB is the right player to handle the job well.

Matt Hasselbeck praises Brock Purdy’s split-second decision-making

Although Purdy’s stats from last season already put him among the leading players, Matt Hasselbeck highlighted how the player actually achieved those stats. He mentioned Purdy’s decision-making quality–one of the primary responsibilities that comes with the position of starting quarterback.

I think a lot of it is decision-making in a split second. It’s also making the throw at the moment of truth. [Purdy] seized the opportunity, took advantage of it, and he made those big-time throws in a split second when they needed them to be made… He took advantage of it, and I don’t think they’ll ever look back.

In Hasselbeck’s opinion, if anyone deserves the credit more than Purdy, it’s the 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, whose play-calling and system brings out the true potential of his quarterback.
