Despite Team USA’s success, there’s uncertainty surrounding the future of head coach Steve Kerr, who recently revealed the ‘Unsung MVP’ from Team USA.

According to recent reports by NBA insider Marc Stein, Kerr is not expected to return as the head coach of USA Basketball in the next Olympics. Stein believes that Erik Spoelstra, the head coach of the Miami Heat, and Ty Lue, the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, are the top candidates to replace Kerr.

“It’s expected that he’ll be replaced by either Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra or Clippers head coach Ty Lue, both of whom were Kerr’s assistant coaches on the gold medal team this summer at the Paris Olympics.” Stein wrote in his latest reports.

The NBA insider’s report sparked debate among fans. They expressed their opinions in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) comment section. Fans made jokes about Kerr and Tatum’s controversy and started mentioning that Tatum was the reason behind Stein’s report.

Steve Kerr has faced criticism from several NBA analysts, players, and fans for not giving Tatum enough playing time during the 2024 Olympics. Former NBA player Bob Cousy accused Kerr of being a biased coach for this decision. Moreover, the host of the First Take show also criticized Kerr for the same reason. Stephen A. Smith specifically slammed Kerr for benching the 2023-24 NBA champion.

In addition, former NBA player Dennis Rodman criticized the Golden State Warriors head coach for his lack of involvement with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In response to the criticism faced due to benching Tatum, Kerr mentioned that he can’t play all the players at the same time. However, it is still unclear whether Kerr will be the coach for Team USA in the next Olympics.
