Given Luka Doncic’s offensive prowess combined with Kyrie Irving‘s artistry, if anyone had said that the Mavericks would trail 2-0 in the NBA Finals, he’d have been assumed as a nut case. But in reality, that’s what is happening. Following Sunday’s win for the Celtics, a closer inspection of game footage reveals an ugly truth and it involves Luka Doncic.

In a video posted on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Luka Doncic is seen seemingly being a cone during the defensive phases as Cs players waltzed past him without any real resistance.

The viral video has already garnered more than 100k views and the number keeps rising with each passing hour.

Doncic had back-to-back 30-point games in the opening two games of the series only to be thwarted by the Celtics’ defensive resilience. Despite the Slovenian averaging a triple-double of 35-15-12 in the series so far, he is not getting much help from anywhere else. Thanks to the Celtics fans’ boo-filled ovation of Kyrie Irving, the former Cavs guard has stayed silent in the last two games.

But defense is the big question here, as Doncic is seen at a walking pace with little, next to no effort put into containing the opponents. Social media did not wait to jump into the slander fest and flooded the thread with their views.

Following the harrowing defensive display from Doncic, the NBA fans didn’t hold back from criticizing the All-Star guard. Here are some of the comments posted on X:

One fan wondered, “Makes me think, how many NBA championship teams are there that had their best player being a cone on defense.”

Someone rued the missed chance of the Timberwolves to attack Doncic more and wrote, “It was crazy too cuz in the Wolves series they’d literally attack everyone but Luka.”

One fan even compared Doncic’s defensive game with that of James Harden, “who is a better defender? prime Harden or Luka?”

“I don’t see how they made It that far with that kind of defense,” posted an astonished fan.

As game 3 rolls into the American Airlines Center, the Mavs will have a chance to come back to Boston with a 2-2 series. To do that, Luka Doncic needs to stop being a cone and get his defensive cap on. This is what the Mavs fans would want because, after all, it’s a matter of the NBA Championship which has eluded them for over a decade.
