Devin Vassell, San Antonio Spurs Disrespected on NBA TV

The broadcast crew on NBA TV forgot a name when listing off the Spurs’ depth chart.

It’s an exciting time to be a fan of the San Antonio Spurs. Rookie Stephon Castle will get to learn from Chris Paul, Jeremy Sochan is flashing improvement, and Victor Wembanyama is on pace to exceed the lofty expectations set on his shoulders.

If it feels like I forgot Devin Vassell, I’m not the first to make that mistake.

Vassell averaged 19.5 points, 4.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and shot 37.2 percent from three last season. He was easily the Spurs’ second-best player next to Victor Wembanyama and was named untouchable in any off-season moves.

So, it’s safe to say that he’s a core member of the future, and forgetting him would be ridiculous.

Leave it to the team of NBA TV’s Free Agent Fever to forget such an important name. In a recent segment, they outlined the Spurs’ lineup around Wembanyama and forgot to include Vassell not only in the starting five but also on the roster.

Keep in mind, the segment aired before Paul officially joined the Spurs, so there was good reason for him to not be included in the projected lineup.

A much more realistic starting five would be Paul, Castle, Vassell, Sochan, and Wembanyama. Jones, Johnson, Champagnie, and Collins would be the key bench players.

The Spurs historically have not received their fair share of media coverage, but as Wembanyama becomes the face of the league, ESPN, NBA TV, and other major outlets will have to start paying attention, and knowing who all is on the team is a good place to start.
