If there’s one team that owes their players and fanbase a blockbuster trade between now and Week 1, it’s the Dallas Cowboys.

After their embarrassing Wild Card Round playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said his team would have an “all-in” approach. Fast forward to June, however, and Dallas has yet to make a single big splash in the trade or free agent markets.

The good news is that Dallas still has three months to make an impact move (or two). Ideally, they’d find at least one more impact player on offense to help take the pressure off of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

FanSided’s Cody Williams proposed a fascinating trade idea that has Dallas acquiring 2021 first-round pick Kadarius Toney from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round draft pick:

“The simple truth of the matter is that the Chiefs are only motivated to move Toney if two things are true. First, they have to believe that the former Giants first-rounder is a lost cause and, secondly and related to that, Kansas City also thinks that the cap savings they would get by trading him would be more valuable than having him on the roster.

As for the Cowboys, the impetus for such a trade would be trying to be the team that can realize the undeniable and immense talent of Toney, without question. Dallas, however, could be uniquely motivated to want to pursue that gamble in a trade with Kansas City. After all, in Toney’s one game against America’s Team while he was still in New York, he torched his then-NFC East rival with 10 catches for 189 yards while adding a seven-yard rush for good measure.”

Toney has won a pair of Super Bowl rings with Kansas City, but the No. 20 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft has been a big-time bust up to this point. Through three seasons, the ex-New York Giant has just 82 receptions for 760 yards and three touchdowns.

Kansas City signed former 1,000-yard receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown and used their first-round pick on Texas Longhorns star Xavier Worthy. So Toney’s role will be minimal if he’s on the KC roster in 2024, meaning he could definitely use another fresh start.

Dallas Cowboys Could Unlock Kadarius Toney’s Potential

Since trading Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns in 2022, the Dallas Cowboys have lacked a game-changing No. 2 wideout to help Lamb and Prescott. Brandin Cooks is better suited as a WR3, so the Cowboys should definitely consider the idea of landing Toney.

He didn’t pan out in New York and hasn’t put it together in Kansas City. But perhaps Toney would reach his ceiling on a Dallas offense that churns out a top-10 scoring unit every year, especially if Mike McCarthy were to utilize him more than Andy Reid.
