Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Charlie Jones had to be carted off of Thursday’s practice after suffering a non-contact injury.
Jeremy Rauch of FOX19 Cincinnati reports that Charlie Jones suffered the injury during a 7-on-7 practice. Rauch shared a video of the 25-year-old wide receiver (visibly in pain) being carted off:
Per Rauch, Jones said after practice that he underwent an MRI on his right knee. When questioned about the seriousness of the injury, Jones stated, “We’ll see.” Rauch also added that Jones managed to get up and walk on his own.
Charlie Jones was a fourth-round pick (No. 131 overall) by the Bengals in 2023 following an excellent 2022 season at Purdue. Jones, who transferred from Iowa, racked up 110 receptions for 1,361 yards and 12 touchdowns in his final NCAA season.
The 6-foot-tall, 183-pound wide receiver appeared in 11 games during his rookie season and finished with seven receptions for 64 yards.
Cincinnati finished 9-8 last season despite losing quarterback Joe Burrow for the final seven games with a wrist injury. Their winning record was also impressive when you consider that their three division rivals (Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers) all finished with double-digit wins to make the playoffs.
The Bengals have recorded three straight winning seasons and played in the 2021 and 2022 AFC Championship Games. We’ll see if a healthy Burrow can help Cincinnati finally get over the championship hump and claim their first Super Bowl this season.
Charlie Jones Will Likely Get More Playing Time In 2024
If Jones avoided a significant injury, then he’ll likely enjoy an expanded role on the Joe Burrow-led offense this year. The team moved on from their No. 3 receiver, Tyler Boyd, who signed with the Tennessee Titans in free agency.
Jones will work in an offense with one of the league’s top receiving duos in superstar Ja’Marr Chase and two-time 1,000-yard wideout Tee Higgins.
