Dallas Cowboys superstar wide receiver CeeDee Lamb just dropped a hint that he may not be with the organization much longer.
On Thursday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made headlines when he said he doesn’t “have any urgency to” complete CeeDee Lamb’s contract extension, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. Lamb is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie deal.
Several fans on X/Twitter noted that Lamb has removed “America’s Team” from his X/Twitter profile after Jones’ comments were released to the public:
So, make of that as you will. Also, Lamb sent out this tweet in response to Jones’ comments about not being in a rush to pay him:
To say that things are getting testy in Dallas would be a massive understatement. Jones said back in January that his team would use an “all-in” approach to the offseason, and yet the Cowboys haven’t made a significant trade or free agent signing to bolster their roster.
Aside from CeeDee Lamb, Jones has also failed to reach extensions with quarterback Dak Prescott and linebacker Micah Parsons. Prescott is entering the final year of his contract, and Parsons has two years left on his rookie deal.
As if Jones’ inactivity this offseason wasn’t frustrating enough, now Cowboys fans must worry about the possibility of Lamb getting traded.
CeeDee Lamb Deserves To Get Paid
Lamb has asserted himself as a top-five receiver in the game since Amari Cooper’s departure two years ago. The 2020 first-round pick has exceeded the 100-catch and 1,300-yard marks in each of the last two years.
He had a career year in 2023, tallying 135 receptions (the most in football) for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. No other Dallas player was close to 1,000 yards receiving last year, a clear reminder of Lamb’s value to this team.
This offseason, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Justin Jefferson, Tyreek Hill, Calvin Ridley, AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith and DJ Moore all signed lucrative extensions. So it’s fair for Lamb to want to wait this out until he’s paid what he’s worth.
