When the basketball world learned that Caitlin Clark wouldn’t be on the Olympic roster for Team USA, many people wondered if she would suit up for Italy. It appears we finally got our answer to that question.

During one of Clark’s media sessions, an Italian reporter told her, “If you want the No. 22 of the [Italian] national basketball team, it’s free.”

Clark, who could technically play for Italy this summer, kindly turned down that offer.

“I have Italian heritage, but I don’t know about all that,” Clark replied with a smile. “I appreciate that.”

Clark, the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, seems committed to USA Basketball. She’ll have plenty of opportunities in the future to represent her country.

Even though Clark was snubbed by Team USA, she has handled this entire situation with class.

“I’m excited for the girls that are on the team,” Clark told reporters, via ESPN. “I know it’s the most competitive team in the world and I know it could have gone either way — me being on the team or me not being on the team. I’m going to be rooting them on to win gold. I was a kid that grew up watching the Olympics, so it will be fun to watch them.”

Hopefully, we’ll get to see Clark dominate on the international stage in 2028. For now, we’ll get to watch her light up the WNBA.
