It has been four years since Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant have been deceased, and everyone still remembers where they were when that news came down.
Reports of the 41-year-old Los Angeles Lakers superstar’s death broke right before the Pro Bowl in 2020, and everyone on the field had the same reactions.
To put this moment into perspective, the global pandemic still hadn’t happened yet as COVID was spreading, and everyone was still largely unaware at the time as life as we knew it was still relatively normal.
Then, Kobe Bryant died.
Footage has surfaced showing the many reactions of players like Kirk Cousins, Drew Brees, Mark Ingram, and Lamar Jackson as fans chanted his name in the stadium.
Jacksonville Jaguars DE and Defensive Pro Bowl MVP Calais Campbell informed players in the locker room as they held hands and prayed.
Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, as they were on their way to a youth basketball game. All nine people on board were killed in the crash.
NTSB Stated Pilot Had’ Spatial Disorientation’ During Kobe Bryant Helicopter Crash
The helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and many others was said to be caused by the pilot flying into the clouds as well as ensuing spatial disorientation, the National Transportation Safety Board ruled in 2021.
It was determined the probable cause of the crash was pilot Ara Zobayan’s “decision to continue flight under visual flight rules [VFR] into instrument meteorological conditions [IMC], which resulted in the pilot’s spatial disorientation and loss of control.”
The NTSB added that it was “the pilot’s likely self-induced pressure and the pilot’s plan continuation bias, which adversely affected his decision making,” and Island Express’s “inadequate review and oversight of its safety management processes.”
