Alex Ovechkin has finally spoken out following the controversy that surrounded his emoji response to his GM. His response: he wants two superstar acquisitions.

Washington Capitals GM Brian MacLellan made a couple of signings over the last few weeks, most notably acquiring Pierre-Luc Dubois and Andrew Mangiapane in free agency.

A few days later, when Ovechkin was asked what he thought of the signings his team made, he responded with a simple thumbs up emoji, leading many to believe he sarcastically approved.

Ovi has now spoken out about that, and has stated that he wants his GM to trade for Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid, as he expects them to both be on his team next season.

“I want to see McDavid and Crosby on our team”

Ovechkin and Crosby go way back roughly two decades of playing each other, with the spotlight always on them every time they would face one another.

They have grown an off ice friendship during this time too, and now, Ovi wants Crosby on his line, so that he can break Wayne Gretzky’s goal record. It wouldn’t hurt adding another 150 point player in McDavid on the team too.

The Capitals were swept in the first round of the playoffs last season by the Rangers, and one’s thing for sure, if MacLellan is able to acquire both Crosby and McDavid to satisfy Ovechkin’s needs, the Capitals are going to be the ones sweeping care of business.
