Now, there aren’t any indicators that DK Metcalf and the Seahawks may be headed for a divorce. He is still under contract for two more years, having signed a $72 million extension in the 2022 offseason.
But if Seattle GM John Schneider gets a quality offer for his top offensive weapon, the Seahawks should be open for business. Right now, this is a “mushy middle” team that’s not good enough to win a Super Bowl, but also not bad enough to bottom out for top-10 draft picks.
Metcalf would draw plenty of interest on the trade market, and Seattle would surely prefer to trade him outside the NFC. Considering that, the Los Angeles Chargers stand out as the perfect destination for DK Metcalf.
The Bolts are entering a new era with head coach Jim Harbaugh and GM Joe Hortiz. But they surprisingly decided to completely rebuild the offense around Justin Herbert, parting ways with star playmakers Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Austin Ekeler.
Los Angeles is banking on sophomore Quentin Johnston, rookie Ladd McConkey and veteran Josh Palmer to carry the receiving corps. But Herbert hasn’t played with a receiver like Metcalf, and his arrival would put the Bolts in immediate contention to begin the Harbaugh era.
What Chargers Should Offer For DK Metcalf
The Seahawks already have three capable 1,000-yard weapons in Tyler Lockett, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Kenneth Walker III. Trading Metcalf would clear his 2024 and 2025 cap numbers of $24.5 million and $29.5 million, giving Schneider ample cash to spend freely next year.
So if they’re willing to field offers on Metcalf, the Chargers should be aggressive in their pursuit and offer a 2025 first-round pick. It’s a hefty price on paper, but the Bolts would be supplying their franchise QB with a true No. 1 receiver for years to come while accelerating their championship window.
