Denver Broncos All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II is one of the top names to follow on the market between now and the 2024 NFL trade deadline.
Patrick Surtain II has come as advertised since turning pro three years ago, emerging as one of football’s elite shutdown corners. Through three seasons, the 2021 first-round pick has seven interceptions and 36 pass breakups.
Denver signaled a full-scale rebuild earlier this offseason by releasing quarterback Russell Wilson and All-Pro safety Justin Simmons. They also traded away top wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns for two late-round picks in a surprise move.
So naturally, one can only wonder if Patrick Surtain II will be the next Broncos standout to get traded. Given his age (24) and cheap rookie deal, Surtain would land Denver a valuable return in a possible trade.
The Broncos’ AFC rivals, the Buffalo Bills, especially stand out as a logical landing spot for the two-time Pro Bowler.
Buffalo completely rebuilt their defense this offseason, parting ways with star defensive backs Tre’Davious White, Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer and pass-rusher Leonard Floyd. If they’re to compete for a Super Bowl in 2024, GM Brandon Beane must bring in another difference-maker on his new-look D.
The Bills should offer the Broncos 2025 first and 2026 second-round picks in exchange for Patrick Surtain II. It’s a hefty price, to be sure, but it’s an ideal win-now move for a team that feels one piece away from a championship.
Patrick Surtain II Doesn’t Want To Be Traded
Per Chris Tomasson of The Gazette, Surtain II told reporters he wishes to remain in Mile High City, stating, “Obviously, I want to be a Bronco.”
But with the Broncos in the early stages of a rebuild, GM George Paton may find it tough to turn down lucrative trade packages for Patrick Surtain II. And with so many teams coveting an all-world shutdown cornerback like Surtain, it only makes sense for the Broncos to trade him if the right offer comes along.
