Miranda Hart has confirmed she is set to release a new book which will cover a dark ‘testing’ time in her life as she admitted how she was able to get through the troubling period

Comedian Miranda Hart has revealed a new book will explain the “treasures” which have helped her recover from a dark “testing” period in her life in recent years.

The actor, writer and comedian was a hugely successful star on screen and stage for two decades, but in the last few years has barely been seen in the public spotlight.

Miranda announced on Twitter that her book, ‘I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You,’ will be released in October and is available for pre-order.

She said of the contents, “I’m sharing what I learned in darkness—how it helped me find freedom, joy, peace, and unexpected physical recovery.” lime

“So there you are. There’s always hope, I suppose. Whatever you might be going through at this time. None of us go through life without some testing or trials do we?”

Holding the book up, she added: “I’m honest in here about well, there’s so much I could say, but I’m just gonna say this… I’ve been through a very unexpected decade in my life, and they’ve been some surprising and incredible joys, but also some really difficult, equally surprising challenges. All the tests and trials I’ve been through are in here when you buy it. I’m here, I’m intact, I got through it.” lime

On a more upbeat note, she ended the video by going on to tease that the book may also contain a love story. Miranda first found success in 2002 when she began stand up and sketch shows in London and the Edinburgh Fringe. But she really hit the big time with her semi-autobiographical BBC sitcom Miranda, which was based on her earlier BBC Radio 2 radio series Miranda Hart’s Joke Shop. ‘Miranda’ ran for three series and several Christmas specials from 2009 to 2015. lime

The sitcom earned her three Royal Television Society awards, four British Comedy Awards and four BAFTA nominations. Miranda then starred in the drama Call The Midwife until 2015, and she even presented the Royal Variety Performance in 2017. lime

She has done very little work over the last few years although she did voice a character in the animated film The Canterville Ghost in 2023. Her own personal website only lists her career highlights up until 2019 when she was working on a movie.

In the past Miranda has said she suffers from anxiety. In a previous book she wrote: “Life during times of acute anxiety has been like wading through treacle and on bad days getting to the end of the street to post a letter was hard, such was the extreme level of fear in my body.” lime

She previously said of what it’s like being ‘glass half-empty’ in the comedy world. Speaking in 2018, she said: “There’s a lot of talk about comedians being depressed and I think, in many cases, it’s absolutely true.

“I definitely have that side to my personality – naturally my glass is half-empty, so I make a conscious effort to keep the positive attitude going.” lime
