HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding Delivers Advanced Technology for the Navy’s Third Flight III Arleigh Burke-class Guided Missile Destroyer
PASCAGOULA, Mississippi – Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division recently delivered the third Flight III Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, the USS Ted Stevens (DDG 128).
Prior to launch, DDG 128 was transferred from land to the dry dock using transporters to facilitate transport to the dry dock. Once in the dry dock, the ship is prepared to launch.
The Ted Stevens is the 76th Arleigh Burke-class ship, and its name honors former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens, who served as a U.S. senator representing Alaska. At the time of his office in 2009, he was the longest-serving Republican U.S. senator in history.
Ingalls Shipbuilding has delivered 35 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers to the U.S. Navy, including the first Flight III, Jack H.
Lucas (DDG 125), in June of this year. In addition, Ingalls’ shipbuilders are currently constructing the 76th Arleigh Burke-class ship, which will be a guided missile destroyer capable of performing a variety of operational missions, from peacetime presence and crisis management to sea control and power projection.
“The transport and launch of a ship are always important milestones for our shipbuilders and for the Navy,” said Ingalls Shipbuilding DDG Program Manager George M. Nungesser.
“Ingalls’ shipbuilders are skilled in safely capturing the vessel and preparing it for the rigors of operating in the open ocean. We take great pride in our ability to deliver high-quality ships that contribute to the Navy’s mission of defending our nation.”
The DDG 128 includes the AN/SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR) and the Aegis Baseline 10 Combat System, capable of integrated air and missile defense and concurrent anti-air warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and anti-surface warfare.
HII is a global leader in defense and federal solutions, delivering high-quality shipbuilding to support the Navy’s most powerful surface combatants and providing innovative solutions in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and synthetic training environments to support readiness and modernization of the U.S. Navy and other federal agencies.
As the Navy’s largest supplier of surface combatants, HII’s workforce is 43,000 strong.
