Alec Baldwin once stated that Tom Cruise is to blame for this pay-gap.
Many A-list actresses now have been voicing their opinion on this issue.
While there are a number of factors that contribute to this disparity, Alec Baldwin pointed to actor Tom Cruise as a key player in perpetuating the problem.

The issue of gender pay inequality has long been a contentious topic in Hollywood, with prominent voices advocating for change and transparency.
And Alec Baldwin’s comment on this issue raised many eyebrows.
Alec Baldwin Blamed Tom Cruise For Pay Gap in Hollywood
Despite the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, the gender pay gap remains a glaring issue.
Female actors, regardless of their talent and box office draw, often find themselves earning significantly less than their male counterparts.
The pay disparity extends beyond the realm of acting to include female directors, writers, and other behind-the-scenes roles.
According to Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise‘s alleged greed may be a contributing factor to the perpetuation of the gender pay gap in Hollywood.
Baldwin stated that Cruise’s insistence on receiving top dollar for his films has made it more difficult for studios to afford to pay actresses equally.

While speaking at Elle magazine’s (via E! News) annual Women in Hollywood dinner and awards show in 2009, Baldwin said:
“I believe we can balance the scales if Tom Cruise would lower his quote by a mere $29 million.
I realize this might be a bit unfair since he’s not here to defend himself and I really don’t want to put this all on one man, but if I had to, that man would be Tom Cruise…I assure you my salary would not make a difference.
My annual salary is the budget for Altoids on one of Tom’s movies.”
While Alec Baldwin’s comments may have sparked a conversation about the role of top male actors in perpetuating the gap, actress Sharon Stone, and Jennifer Lawrence have been voicing for a long time.
“I remember sitting in my kitchen with my manager and just crying and saying I’m not going to work until I get paid.”
Jennifer Lawrence, being one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood still so much underpaid than her male counterparts. She once told Vogue:
“It doesn’t matter how much I do. I’m still not going to get paid as much as that guy, because of my v*gina?”
She told Vanity Fair:
“It’s extremely uncomfortable to inquire about equal pay.
And if you do question something that appears unequal, you’re told it’s not gender disparity, but they can’t tell you what exactly it is.”
A-List Actresses Speak Out on the Hollywood Pay Gap
In recent years, the issue of gender pay inequality in Hollywood has gained considerable attention, with A-list actresses leading the charge for change.
Sandra Bullock and other influential women in the industry have stepped into the spotlight to shed light on the disparities that persist in Hollywood.
Sandra Bullock depicted the wage gap issue while speaking with Variety.
Bullock said that she had been paid less than her male co-stars in several films and that she believed the gender pay gap is a bigger issue than money.

She said:
“Once we start shifting how we perceive women and stop thinking about them as ‘less than,’ the pay disparity will take care of itself.”
Salma Hayek, while speaking on the s*xism women faced in the industry said: (Via Access Online)
“This is a problem that is in every single industry. If you have the same capacities and you are doing the same job, it is criminal not to pay the same salary.”
Meryl Streep has always been vocal about the pay gap in the industry.

She told Time:
“Men are ashamed that they’re getting that money. It used to be, everybody didn’t say anything about it, so it was kind of fine.
Now they’re a little more nervous that somebody will find out what they make vis-a-vis their co-star.”
“That’s the best vigilance: the vigilance of privilege,” she continued.
“People will always be battling and whining about it. When the other side says, ‘You know, I think that sucks’—that’s great.“
As these influential women continue to use their voices to bring attention to the issue, there is hope that Hollywood will evolve into a more inclusive and equitable space.
