Former military commander Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) is the leader of the secret agents who guard American President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) and guarantee the safety of America’s first family.
Banning is also a friend of the president’s family, first lady Margaret (Ashely Judd) and their son Connor (Finley Jacobsen).
During the return to Camp David, from an event and collecting contributions for the campaign, the president’s vehicle went off the bridge due to the ice on the road, Banning managed to save the president, but the vehicle carrying the first lady fell off the bridge.
Eighteen months later, Banning was dismissed and works at the Treasury headquarters. During a meeting between Asher and the Prime Minister of North Korea, terrorists, led by Kang Yeonsak (Rick Yune), attack the White House from all sides and capture it.

Placing North Korean terrorists in the plot of ‘Olympus Fall’ was seen as insightful as real-life tensions between North Korea and the US emerged in 2013.
Director Antoine Fuqua said he did not want the film’s villains to be from the Middle East because he felt other films were covered to the point of saturation. North Korea was interesting to him because it was completely closed to the outside world and no one really knew what it was up to or capable of doing.

In the film, the emergency code for the attack on Washington DC is listed as ‘999’. 999 is also the telephone number of the British emergency service, and Britain is the country where Gerard Butler is from.
