New Street Fighter art imagines Reacher star Alan Ritchson as the perfect person replace Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile – and Ritchson is down.
Fan art imagines Reacher star Alan Ritchson as the new Guile in a Street Fighter live-action movie. Released in 1994, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Street Fighter brought the two-fisted action of the iconic arcade video game to the big screen in a live-action adaptation.
Street Fighter did go on to gross $99 million at the worldwide box office, but critics were not exactly kind to the Steven E. de Souza-directed flick, and it currently holds just an 11% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Things may be looking up for the future of Street Fighter as a TV or movie franchise however, as Dune and Godzilla studio Legendary recently acquired the game’s movie rights, and began development on a new live-action adaptation.
Details on Legendary’s new Street Fighter movie have not yet begun trickling out, but fan artist Boss Logic has a great idea who should head up the cast as the flat-topped character Guile, posting an image of Reacher star Ritchson in the role originated by Van Damme back in 1994.
In a comment on Boss Logic’s Instagram post, Ritchson himself indicated his interest in making this bit of fancasting a reality, saying “I’m in.”
Street Fighter Is Long Overdue For a Reboot

Following on the mild box office success of the original Street Fighter movie, a sequel was planned with Van Damme returning alongside Dolph Lundgren and Holly Valance, but that follow-up never saw the light of day.
When Street Fighter did finally get a sequel in 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Van Damme was nowhere to be seen, and the movie utterly tanked at the box office with a gross of just $12.8 million against a budget of $50 million.
Given the box office failure of 2009’s sequel, it’s no surprise that Street Fighter ceased to be a live-action franchise. But considering the enduring legacy of the original game, not to mention the continued love for its animated adaptations, it’s also no surprise that Legendary has acquired the rights and is moving forward with a new reboot.
It’s yet to be seen who will star as Guile in the new Street Fighter, but Reacher’s Ritchson would seem the perfect actor to embody the character, and it seems that he’s down for it. Perhaps Van Damme himself could be brought back in another role, in honor of his memorable Street Fighter 1994 performance.
