There are plenty of scary and thrilling movies out there, but rarely do they get the praise of experts in the horror genre. However, that’s precisely what happened to Gerard Butler’s Plane. While talking on X with his fans, horror author Stephen King had nothing but praise for the film.
Stephen King Recommends Plane
In his tweet, he mentioned that the movie was “Authentic fright or flight material.” Coming from an author famous for his terrifying books and film adaptations, this is some heavy praise, even in the form of a pun. It puts the movie up there with some of Stephen King’s other recommended movies, such as Late Night with the Devil, Crimson Peak, and The Blair Witch Project.
The Cast
Plane
Gerard Butler (300, The Phantom of the Opera) is the main character of Plane, portraying Brodie Torrance, the pilot in charge of landing an airplane that’s failing after a lightning strike. He manages to find an island and performs an emergency landing, but that’s just the beginning of his problems when dangerous rebels capture most of the passengers. He must rely on a criminal transported by the FBI to help him rescue the remaining passengers and get them home alive.
Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Lilly Krug (Shattered), Evan Dane Taylor (Castle Falls), Tony Goldwyn (The Last Samurai), and Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) also appear throughout Plane.
How Critics And Audiences Rate Plane
Jean-Francois Richet directed the movie. Though he’s done other movies that critics rated well, such as Blood Father and Mesrine, Plane is the highest-scoring movie according to audience members to date by Richet.
What Makes Plane Stand Out
It’s not because of Gerard Butler that Plane did so well, or at least not solely. Despite its simple plot, Plane has one important thing going for it. It reminds fans of an old-school action movie.
There are no crazy plot twists or extreme GGI to make the movie stand out, it’s simply a story with lots of violence and high stakes.
With such a straightforward storyline, the movie had to have plenty of action and great actors. Plane delivered on both of these aspects, if fan ratings and the praise by Stephen King are anything to go by.
Where To Watch Plane
If you’re eager to watch Gerard Butler in Plane, there are plenty of places to watch it. Starz, Hulu, YouTube, The Roku Channel, Philo, and Amazon Prime Video all offer premium subscribers access to the movie. For those who don’t pay for these subscriptions, the movie is available to rent or buy on Apple TV, Google Play Movie, and Fandango at Home.
