Over a decade ago, Alan Ritchson actually starred in the second Hunger Games movie, though his role is barely remembered today.
Summary:
Starring in the Reacher TV series took Alan Ritchson’s career to new heights
Before that, however, the actor appeared in a wide range of different projects
One of his most obscure roles came in 2013’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as he’s almost unrecognizable a decade after
Alan Ritchson’s acting career has skyrocketed in recent years thanks to the unexpectedly massive success of the Reacher TV series, based on the Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child.
But even though production on the show’s third season is in full swing, that doesn’t mean the actor won’t be starring in other projects in the near future.
Aside from Reacher season 3, arguably the most intriguing upcoming movie starring Ritchson is Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, in which he will star alongside Henry Cavill.
The Actor Has Had A Very Diverse Career
However, with a career spanning nearly two decades, Ritchson has had to come a long way to become the world-famous star he is today, appearing in all sorts of movies and TV shows, from 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to American Idol.
However, most fans of the actor’s work don’t even realize that he was also a part of the iconic dystopian film franchise The Hunger Games, based on the book series of the same name by Suzanne Collins.
Ritchson’s Role In The Hunger Games Was Fairly Minor
Back in 2013, Ritchson starred in the second installment of the series, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, where he portrayed Gloss, a tribute from District 1 and a brother to Cashmere, played by Stephanie Leigh Schlund.
To be fair, it’s no wonder his role in the film is so obscure, as his screen time was fairly limited, with arguably the most memorable of his scenes being Gloss’ confrontation with Jennifer Lawrence ‘s Katniss and her team.
When the heroes discover that the arena they were “competing” in was actually designed to resemble a giant clock, with a specific deadly trap activated in each sector every hour, they eventually make it to the center.
There they fight with Gloss and his sister, killing them both, and the scene culminates with the center of the arena spinning at high speed.
Fans point out that Ritchson today looks nothing like his former self from a decade ago, as the actor has gained an enormous amount of mass for his role as Jack Reacher, and barely resembles the more averagely built Gloss.
No release date has been announced for the third season of Reacher, while The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will be released on April 19, 2024.
