Alan Ritchson has undergone a surprising transformation for his latest role, ditching the short, simple hairstyle and behemoth bulk of Reacher for long locks and a thinner (but still huge) frame. The actor took to social media to share how his new character, the lead of the upcoming action movie Motor City from Old Henry director Potsy Ponciroli, has been achieved. You can check out how different Ritchson looks from Jack Reacher below, as well as what he had to say about his role in Motor City.

“How do you completely transform when you only have a few days to transition from Reacher to your next role in period action piece extraordinaire, #MotorCity? You bring out the big guns. @thomasdelauer to help me drop weight fast. The one-of-a-kind Sandy Sokolowski for new hair. And the great Gary Archer ( teeth_by_archer ) for a less pearly set of pearly whites. And of course @katvonpire on some new character specific tats.

My goal is always to make a character as real for you as humanely possible. Not having days off between jobs makes it hard to go as far as I want, but I’ll get as close to unrecognizable as possible. I refuse to play myself. You’ve never experienced anything like Motor City.”

Motor City was announced last year, with Variety revealing that Ponciroli will helm this tale of revenge that sounds pitch-perfect for Ritchson. The rest of the cast includes Shailene Woodley, Pablo Schreiber, Ben Foster. You can check out a brief, but no less tantalizing synopsis below.

“Ritchson will play John Miller, a Detroit man released from prison, who unleashes a rampage of brutal vengeance on those who framed him.”

Motor City has not yet been given a release date.

The first season of Reacher was released back in 2022 and introduces Ritchson as the title character, a former U.S. Army Military Police Major now living as a nomad who suddenly finds himself dragged back into action when he is arrested for murder.

Based on the novels of Lee Child, the second season landed last year (before concluding earlier this year) and finds the man-mountain on another mission after members of his old military unit start turning up dead.

Reacher has been a huge success for Prime Video, becoming the number one series on the streaming service for 2023, and launching Ritchson onto the A-list. Thus, a third season is now on the way.

It has since been revealed that Reacher season 3 will be based on the seventh book in the Jack Reacher series, Persuader, which finds the character going undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past. Reacher season 3 will add several intriguing new characters to the roster, including several villains that will rival Reacher’s size and strength.
