Reacher season 3 will bring back a key past character, as the hit Prime Video adaptation confirms which of Lee Child’s books will be adapted.
SUMMARY
A key character will return in Reacher season 3.
The show’s upcoming season will adapt Lee Child’s book Persuader.
Maria Sten’s Neagley is confirmed to appear in the upcoming season of Prime Video’s Reacher.
Reacher season 3 will bring back a key character from past episodes. Wrapping up its record-breaking sophomore run, Reacher season 2 sees Alan Ritchson’s titular character teaming up with Frances Neagley (Maria Sten), Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan), and David O’Donnell (Shaun Sipos) to uncover why friends from their past are all being murdered.
The violent mystery is solved by the finale, with Reacher and Neagley sharing an emotional goodbye.
Along with the news that Reacher season 3 will adapt Persuader, the seventh book in the Jack Reacher book series from author Lee Child, Prime Video confirms that Sten will be back as Neagley. It’s currently unknown how many episodes she will appear in.
Neagley was a recurring character in Reacher season 1 and joined the main cast in season 2.
Maria Sten’s Neagley Continues A Break From The Books
In the novels, Neagley appears in Without Fail, Bad Luck and Trouble, Night School and The Affair. She’s mentioned in Never Go Back, though she does not appear in Persuader.
The story will see Reacher going undercover to rescue an informant being held by someone from the main character’s past.
The book description is even more vivid, mentioning that Reacher is walking down the street when he sees someone who should be dead. That someone murdered a person that Reacher held dear, and they’ll have to pay the price.
Neagley also does not appear in the Killing Floor book, which season 1 is based on. It could be the case that, in breaking away from the books again, the Prime Video series intends to kill off Neagley.
That would be one way the Reacher show could evolve the main character. At this point, without any details about the upcoming season, the theory is merely speculation.
What is clear is that Reacher, from showrunner Nick Santora, is not afraid to diverge from the books, and for good reason. As a television show, it helps to have familiar characters that the audience can invest in over time beyond just the protagonist. Neagley is now a regular presence, at least for the immediate future.
