Alan Ritchson comments on the status of Reacher Season 3, sharing an exciting update.
A new update has been shared on Season 3 of Reacher.
On a recent appearance for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Alan Ritchson shared an update on the third season of Reacher. It was previously revealed that Season 3 is in production, as Ritchson announced the renewal had started filming just ahead of the Season 2 premiere in December.
In the Tonight Show interview, Ritchson revealed, “We are nearing completion of Season 3.” Nearly putting a bow on the production of the new season will help get new episodes onto Prime Video as soon as possible, and considering the popularity of Reacher, it’s needless to say that there are a great many fans anticipating the next season.
Alan Ritchson went on to celebrate the show’s immense success before sharing the story of how he was almost passed over for the role of Jack Reacher. Similar to how he’d explained the story previously, Ritchson told Jimmy Fallon how he was rejected at first because he was about two inches too short.
The TV series was looking to cast someone who fit the mold of the book’s description of the character as much as possible, perhaps because Tom Cruise’s height was one of the biggest complaints given to the Jack Reacher movies. Ultimately, however, Ritchson wound up getting the part after some campaigning.
“There’s a big asterisk by this role for me, so I feel lucky,” Ritchson said. “I had to audition, and, you know, they wanted the exact specifications. He’s 6’5″ [and] I’m 6’3″… I’m automatically out!”
Fans Are Loving Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher
Fans have turned out not to mind the two-inch difference much, as most viewers seem to agree that Alan Ritchson is still hulking enough to convincingly play the Jack Reacher role.
Both of the first two seasons have been met with very high viewership and strong reviews, and with so many original novels to use for source material, Ritchson could be in the role of Jack Reacher for many years to come.
As for what’s immediately coming next, the source material has been revealed for Season 3. The new season is inspired by Lee Child’s Persuader, which follows Jack going undercover as he stages the kidnapping of a suspected criminal’s son before winding up entrenched in a new conspiracy.
Season 3 of Reacher doesn’t yet have a premiere date, but the first two seasons are streaming on Prime Video.
