The Reacher season 2 ending may have secretly set up the next adventures for Alan Ritchson’s hero in the third season of the Amazon Prime Video show.
SUMMARY
Reacher season 2 wrapped up the 110th Special Investigations Unit’s mission and teased what’s to come in season 3.
Season 3 will adapt Lee Child’s seventh book, Persuader, and feature Jack Reacher going undercover as a DEA agent.
The show may switch from the DEA to Homeland Security, allowing Jack to reunite with Agent Karim and potentially bring back other season 2 characters.
Reacher season 2’s ending not only wrapped up the 110th Special Investigations Unit’s mission for vengeance, but it also teased what’s next for Jack Reacher in season 3.
Unsurprisingly, Alan Ritchson is already confirmed to reprise his role as the headliner in Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of Lee Child’s famed books.
Like the novels, the TV series created by Nick Santora takes on an anthology-type of storytelling, which means that each season tackles a different installment from the series. The source materials don’t have much overlap with each other — something that their small screen iteration is veering away from.
The Reacher season 2 finale wrapped up Jack and the Special Investigators’ fight to take down Shane Langston for killing their friends. As with his stint in Margrave, he moved on from the job and continues his hobo lifestyle.
That being said, with Reacher season 3 confirmed to tackle Child’s seventh book, Persuader, the show’s sophomore year may have already planted narrative seeds for his next endeavor. In the book, Jack goes undercover as a DEA agent to defeat an old foe. While Reacher has taken creative liberties before, it’s safe to say that it will stick to that premise.
Reacher Season 2’s Homeland Security Teased Season 3’s Story
While delving deep into New Age, Jack tapped into his brother, Joe’s connection with the government, allowing him to connect with certain people willing to help him from Homeland Security.
What started as a simple gathering of information ended as a collaboration when Homeland Agent Omar Karim came in and helped round up Senator Lavoy’s people, who were about to kill Jack, Frances Neagley, David O’Donnell, and Karla Dixon following the defeat of Langston and AM. This establishes a working relationship with Jack and the organization.
It’s possible that Reacher season 3 changes the government agency involved in its storytelling — from the DEA to Homeland Security. This paves the way for Jack to reunite with Karim, and even go undercover with him.
Going this creative route will continue a narrative throughline between seasons 2 and 3, which is something that the Amazon Prime Video series has already done when it brought back Neagley for a much bigger role in its sophomore year following her previous debut in season 1. It also maintains Joe’s impact on his brother’s life long after he passed.
Reacher Season 3 Can Now Bring Back 2 Other Season 2 Characters
Continuing its trend of bringing her back, Reacher season 3 is already confirmed to feature Neagley. She will be the only supporting character in the franchise who will appear in all three seasons of the Amazon Prime Video.
Aside from her, however, there are other characters from season 2 who can return. Karim and his men can be involved, given the potential Homeland Security switch, as well as O’Donnell, considering that he was with Jack when they sought the agency. Since he also lives in Washington DC and has many connections, he can be helpful in the hero’s new mission.
