Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Gerard Butler unite for In the Hand of Dante, with Martin Scorsese on board as a producer.
Major Hollywood superstars Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Gerard Butler will unite in the upcoming crime thriller In the Hand of Dante, from Academy Award nominee Julian Schnabel and with seminal filmmaker Martin Scorsese on board as an executive producer.
Now you’ve had enough time to pick up all those names that were just dropped, we can reveal that In the Hand of Dante will follow the trio in the tale of the original manuscript for the well-renowned Italian narrative poem by Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy.
As per a report by Deadline, In the Hand of Dante will be based on the novel of the same name by Nick Tosches, which weaves together two stories, one set in the 14th century in Italy and following Dante Alighieri, with another set in 2001 and featuring a fictionalized version of Nick Tosches.
You can check out the synopsis for the novel below:
“Via Sicily, the manuscript makes its way from the priest to a mob boss in New York City, where a writer named Nick Tosches is called to authenticate the prize.
For this writer, the temptation is too great: he steals the manuscript in a last-chance bid to have it all. As this dark and twisted journey unfolds, so too does a parallel tale: the odyssey of Dante himself, a man trying to weave a poem that contains the sum of the world’s wisdom and the very breath of the divine.”
It is not yet confirmed which roles Isaac, Momoa, and Butler will play, but it has been reported that Isaac will play the main role (possibly Nick Tosches) replacing Johnny Depp, who was originally attached the project some years ago.
In the Hand of Dante is now in production in Italy after landing an Interim Agreement from SAG-AFTRA.
