Actor Alan Ritchson is popularly known for his portrayal of Jack Reacher in Amazon Prime Video’s series Reacher. However, he made his acting debut as DC superhero Aquaman on The CW’s Smallville. The actor’s portrayal of the character of Aquaman was highly appreciated by the audience and the critics.
The Reacher actor was recently seen playing Anders Lassen in Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare alongside Henry Cavill. The movie portrays a fictionalized version of Operation Postmaster.
With James Gunn and Peter Safran rebooting the DC Universe, Alan Ritchson expressed his desire to play the iconic role of Batman if given the opportunity. But if not, fans have picked out a role that might fit the actor perfectly.
Fans express their desire to see Alan Ritchson as the X-Men villain Sabretooth
Alan Ritchson has impressed the audience and the critics with his exceptional work as Jack Reacher in Reacher. He also managed to leave his mark on the audience’s mind when he portrayed the DC superhero Aquaman/Arthur Curry on Smallville. In February, the actor, during an interview with the BroBible Post Credit Podcast, expressed his desire to play Batman on screen. He said,
“The fact that people are interested in me playing Batman is a real honor and privilege. It’s one of the first characters I fell in love with as a child. I still remember the big, long pistol coming out of the Joker’s pants as he goes to shoot down the Batplane.”
Alan Ritchson would love to play Batman if given the opportunity
The actor noted that those iconic moments resonated with him while he was growing up, and for there to be a conversation about him playing that character on-screen is just wild. Later in the conversation, he mentioned that he would love to play him, adding that he’s one of the coolest characters of all time.
But Marvel fans have something else on their minds for Alan Ritchson. A user on X shared a picture of the actor side by side with X-Men villain Sabretooth, writing, ‘Now wait just a second…’ Under the tweet, ardent MCU fans tweeted and mentioned how the actor has the apt buildup for the X-Men character, adding that if James Gunn does not consider his desire to play Batman in DCU, MCU should cast him as Sabretooth. Sabretooth is considered one of the greatest comic-book villains of all time. He first appeared in Iron Fist #14 and eventually rose to become a recurring antagonist for Wolverine.
A user stated, ‘I see the vision’ with another one adding, ‘Been saying this for a while now; I’ve always felt like he fit Sabretooth and Venom better than Batman.’ A third user mentioned that this option seems like incredible casting, and Ritchson’s buildup will make him a great Sabretooth.
Alan Ritchson talks about working with Guy Ritchie on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
During the promotion of his recent release, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Alan Ritchston spoke to EW about his experience working with Guy Ritchie. He describes;
“He’s so particular—he knows just what he wants the aesthetic of the character to be. He’ll come in and tweak your beanie just sideways enough to look cool, and he will tilt your glasses just so to make sure that everything’s not the look that he wants.”
Alan Ritchson played Anders Lassen in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Talking about the creative part of the process, the actor said he was just glad to have worked on the character, the dialect, and learned archery before they started filming because what they ended up filming was completely new.
Alan Ritchson revealed that the director told him that he can forget about the lines and the movie he read on paper because they were going to make one from scratch on the set. He added that suddenly, they were just improvising scenes, which he describes as a horrifying experience for him.
“I really wanted to pay respect to Anders Lassen and to the team of people that paved the way for the rest of us to have real freedom and equality. That story matters, even though it’s definitely got this almost fanciful spin on it with Guy Ritchie’s fingerprint—we’re still talking about the thematic that is really important, so I wanted to get this guy right.”
During the conversation, he pointed out that he is just glad that his hard work and dedication paid off well, and now he waits for the audience’s reaction to his performance.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is now available in cinemas.
