Keanu Reeves begged the team to conclude his role with his character’s death in John Wick: Chapter 4.

We’ve seen a lot of lethal killing machines being portrayed to absolute perfection in major Hollywood projects to amazing TV series, but somehow, the John Wick franchise proved to be something else entirely.

The entire series depicting the revenge story of the greatest assassin to have ever walked the earth was both absurdly outlandish and, at the same time, immensely exciting.

But after the death of the character concluding his serial killing spree, everyone was satisfied that the latest John Wick: Chapter 4 was his last rodeo in the world of assassins.

But after recent announcements from executives at Lionsgate, the world was informed that there was already a fifth film currently in the works along with many other spin-offs.

Just when we all thought that the story of Keanu Reeves‘ The Boogeyman was concluded with his death in the latest film, Lionsgate Motion Pictures recently announced that there are still a lot of projects to come from the John Wick franchise, including a fifth film in the main timeline.

This might come as a surprise to many fans as they were visibly satisfied with the last film’s end.

During Lionsgate‘s recent quarterly earnings call, the chairperson of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Joe Drake made the revelation of this aforementioned news (via ComicBook).

Drake announced that the fifth film was in the works ever since the conclusion of the fourth installment in the series, but due to the now-concluded WGA strikes, it was put on hold. Now, as the winter strikes come to a close, the company has decided to once again announce the project along with more spin-off series like the latest The Continental.

This announcement came as Drake was discussing the upcoming film slate for the company, including the recently announced Highlander reboot series with creator Chad Stahelski. He said:

“On the Wick side, we got multiple spin-offs and Wick Five, We started to work on (it) right when the writer’s strike started and we’ve gotten back to work as soon as it ended.”

This news may have caught most of the fandom off-guard since the titular star of the film wanted the franchise to be done with after the last film.

Despite being the perfect image of a ruthless killing machine in the franchise, his role as John Wick proved to be a seriously taxing gig for Reeves, which made him request the team to conclude his role with his character’s death in John Wick: Chapter 4.

In the past, series producer Basil Iwanyk told Collider that Keanu Reeves begged the team to end his journey as Wick. He said:

“After the second, third, and fourth movie, making these films is so exhausting and it destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally, By the end, he’s always like, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy is just a shell of himself because he just goes off and goes for it. He was like, ‘I wanna be definitively killed at the end of this movie.’”

With the definite announcement of the latest film, it seems like Baba Yaga may be returning from the dead.
