Jimmy Fallon looked visibly shocked when Gerard Butler took their on-set game a little too far.
TheThings/InstarHIGHLIGHTS
Gerard Butler took the game seriously and stunned Jimmy Fallon with a hard slap during Slapjack on The Tonight Show.
Despite the unexpected seriousness of the game, Jimmy Fallon seemed disoriented by the slap but ultimately laughed it off like a champ.
Jimmy Fallon often gets hit harder by celebrity guests during Slapjack, but he plays along and maintains good relationships with them.
The game segments on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon have always offered different creative challenges that put celebrity guests at the receiving end of a prank.
However, these games can either hit their mark or fall flat on the guests, creating an awkward interaction, like Kevin Hart walking off the set because he did not want to take on a challenge.
Jimmy Fallon Was Stunned After Gerard Butler Slapped Him
Slapjack is a game segment on The Tonight Show where the host, Fallon, and a celebrity guest have a go at Blackjack. They play rounds of the card game, and the loser of each round gets slapped in the face with a giant rubber hand by the winner. It’s supposed to be slapstick, light, and fun but accompanied by a lot of pain.
via: YouTube (The Tonight Show)Gerard Butler dealt the first round of the cards while making ‘dirty’ jokes. “Finally. A hand that I can hold my [private part] with,” he said. “You know how many years I’ve waited for this moment?”
However, Jimmy won the first round and got to slap Butler.
Gerard Butler is a rather fascinating personality that people know too little about.
The next round came just as quickly, but Jimmy Fallon and Gerard Butler tied, with the latter winning the round. The slap was swift, and when it was played back in slow motion, Fallon’s stunned face could be seen for a second before he rebounded with, “Wow, it hurt me. The rubber hand hurt me. You got me right in the ear.”
Via: YouTube (The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon)“I asked them to put a brick in it, and they did. Thanks, guys,” Gerard responded.
Jimmy Fallon did win another round, and the final round went to Butler, who went all in with the slap.
The slap knocked Fallon off his chair, and Butler responded, “Sorry, that was me being a little bit hard.”
In slow motion, Jimmy Fallon looked like the rubber hand really hit him hard. He played being disoriented for a few seconds before laughing the whole thing off. Even comments on the video pointed out that Gerard played dirty and took the game seriously.
However, Jimmy Fallon’s reaction to Gerard Butler slapping him was worth the hurt. It gave Fallon a few seconds of disorientation; he was stunned to have been hit hard. Nevertheless, the comedian took the slap like a champ.
Jimmy Fallon Is A Big Fan of Gerard Butler
Jimmy Fallon is known to be called out by his guests. Dakota Johnson once called Jimmy Fallon out for an awkward interview. But Jimmy Fallon had a great time when interviewing Gerard Butler.
Jimmy Fallon tends to cut guests off, but Taylor Swift did not let the moment slide.
The two talked about Gerard’s fun time at the DAYTONA 500 and how Butler was the Grand Marshal. He was asked to do his iconic line from 300.
“It was totally cheesy, but I’m a cheesy kind of guy. So I shout, ‘Everybody you gotta join.’ So I shout ‘This is DAYTONA!'”
Via: YouTube (The Tonight Show)Jimmy Fallon commended Butler’s call, but he said he had better Grand Marshall skills, which was a hilarious call. Butler did call Fallon’s ‘a better version of Leonidas’ from 300.
While the slap came later, Jimmy Fallon called himself a big fan of Gerard Butler. Obviously he was trying to curry favor with the actor, so he wouldn’t get hit hard. “You are my favorite movie star,” Fallon told the Scottish actor.
The slap didn’t seem to change the pair’s friendship though. Fallon still thinks the Olympus Has Fallen is a great actor. Even though the slapjack had way more effect than Jimmy Fallon expected, he took Gerard Butler’s serious slap like a champ and moved on — after a few seconds of reset.
Jimmy Fallon Gets Slapped A Little Harder During Slapjacks
Even though Jimmy Fallon is called a bad interviewer because of his fake laugh reactions, he does know how to engage the audience with different creative and over-the-top games. Slapjack is one of them.
The game has a great line-up of past celebrity players, including Jake Gyllenhaal, Kevin James, Mark Wahlberg, Jason Statham, Ryan Reynolds, and Kevin Hart, among others, and they did a good number on Jimmy Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon is adding to his resume with his new show ‘That’s My Jam’, which features celebrity guest singers on every episode.
With slapjack often played on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon sometimes gets hit harder than his guest celebrities. The physical comedy and reactions when being slapped are the highlight of slapjack. However, there are forms of exaggeration on the part of the host.
While Fallon does win some games, he usually gets hit pretty hard by his celebrity guests, unlike how he hits them. When Kevin Hart commented on Jimmy not hitting hard enough, he replied, “I can’t do that.”
Via: YouTube (The Tonight Show)This could be because they are celebrity guests, and he would love to maintain a good relationship with them. Some celebrities do play along with Fallon’s charade, making the game more entertaining, like when Ryan Reynolds and Jason Statham played slapjack with Jimmy Fallon.
Ryan Reynolds was nice enough to not hit Jimmy so hard. He also apologized when he got Fallon falling to the ground. And Ryan Reynolds followed likewise when he lost a round, showing they were the perfect comedic pair.
The same went for Jason Statham, who lost all rounds and exaggerated his two falls, getting the audience to laugh so much. The videos are one of the most viral from The Tonight Show.
And then some celebrities come for a rematch, like Kevin Hart, who lost the first slapjack game but came for another one. This time, Kevin Hart won his slapjack rematch with Jimmy Fallon, using his magical ‘black hand.’
