He was rushed to hospital last week after crashing his bike in Los Angeles.

And Gerard Butler has admitted he now appreciates how ‘precious’ life is, as he was lucky to escape much more serious, or even fatal, injuries from the accident.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the 47-year-old explained he was lucky to come away with only a fractured foot and a few bruises, as the crash sent him ‘flying through the air’ and could have easily ‘taken him out’.

The actor was riding his bike around LA earlier this week when a woman ploughed into him, and sent him flying through the air.

Although he managed to escape the ordeal with just a fractured foot and a selection of cuts and bruises, Gerard admitted the incident has given him a whole new perspective.

He said: ‘It made me really appreciate how precious life is because I could have landed any number of ways that would have taken me out.’

He explained that the accident had been caused by a woman who was parked on the other side of the road, and decided to make an illegal U-Turn – therefore crashing straight into him.

Only heightening the terror of the moment, Gerard then revealed that he went ‘flying through the air’ into a somersault, before painfully landing on the ground.

While Gerard cannot remember the incident too well, he did confess that the only thing going through his mind when he smashed into the ground was whether he’d be well enough to film his new movie.

Reassuring: However, he promised fans he was on the mend, adding: ‘I have five fractures in my right foot alone [and] a bunch of stupid stuff, a torn meniscus, but I’ll be fine’

However despite the injuries, the Scotsman confirmed he will still be fit enough to shoot his next project, adding: ‘I have five fractures in my right foot alone [and] a bunch of stupid stuff, a torn meniscus, but I’ll be fine.’

Gerard stepped out publicly for the first time since the crash on Monday – cutting a fit and healthy figure at the premiere of his new film Geostorm in LA.

Butler was joined on the red carpet by his co-star in the film, Abbie Cornish, 35, with the pair putting on a cosy display as they prepared to watch the movie.

The 300 star looked dashing in his olive green suit and matching tie whilst his beard was groomed and his locks were slicked back.

The blonde bombshell wore her straight tresses untied and with a side part.

Gerard and Abbie pair star alongside each other in Geostorm – which tells the tale of malfunctioning weather satellites that cause the Earth to suffer cataclysmic weather events.

Also at the premiere was The Bachelor’s Corinne Olympios, who wore a green plaid mini dress with a broad studded belt. Black stilettos boosted her 5’1′ frame.

The Florida born model wore her wavy, long blonde locks untied and tumbling down to her slender waist.

Gerard’s outing came after he was reportedly rushed to hospital following a motorbike accident.

The movie star was allegedly run off the road by a car while riding his motorbike in Los Angeles and had to be treated for his injuries, with an onlooker calling 911 and paramedics heading to the scene, according to TMZ.

However, the star reassured fans that he was fine with an Instagram post after the news broke.
