West has struggled to cope with life outside of the NBA following his retirement and has made headlines on a few occasions, given his brushes with the law and alleged drug use.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban once picked West up from a gas station and drove him to a rehabilitation center, paying for him to get help. Still, the former NBA guard doesn’t appear to have made progress despite multiple attempts from Cuban.
West has been seen asking for money in Virginia and was recently arrested there, with police having to chase him.
A video obtained by TMZ shows West walking around a parking lot, appearing to be under the influence of something.
Why Delonte West Was Arrested
Delonte West was arrested for violating the conditions of his previous release, as well as resisting arrest. He tried escaping officers on foot and lost them after they gave chase; however, he was found unresponsive and needed two doses of Narcan to be revived.
West did seem to be on his way back after trying out for Ice Cube’s BIG3 in 2022. He made over $16 million over a nine-year span in the NBA but is now destitute.
Before his time in the NBA, West was a star at St. Joseph’s. He and Jameer Nelson, who would also make it to the NBA, helped the program to an undefeated regular season in 2003/04. They also reached the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament, which marked their second-best finish in team history.
