RUMOR: Cowboys-Lions Blockbuster Trade Could Add Another Big-Name Playmaker To Detroit’s Offense For 2024 Season

In order to keep Dak Prescott from becoming an unrestricted free agent after next season, the Dallas Cowboys will need to take immediate action or face the possibility of paying Trey Lance and having him take over in 2025. Jerry Jones will have to pay a high price to acquire Prescott’s services, though, particularly considering the recent large contract extension awarded to Jared Goff, the star quarterback for the Detroit Lions.

Those two teams could see themselves crossing paths once again in the future.

It was announced earlier this month that Goff had signed a substantial deal with the Lions totaling $212 million. This includes $170 million guaranteed and an average annual salary of $53 million for the next four years.

However, the Detroit Lions have a major problem at the backup position, and that is where Trey Lance is being mentioned.

The Detroit Lions’ backup QB job is currently being split between Hendon Hooker and Nate Sudfield. Due to injuries, the former missed his entire first campaign. Since being drafted by Washington in 2016, the latter has made six appearances in NFL games.

Christopher Kline of Fansided.com thinks the Detroit Lions can help out Jared Goff by going out and completing a trade for a quarterback.

The option is to go out and get Trey Lance from Dallas.

Via the report:

“One potential option is a Jerry Jones favorite in the Texas heartland. Trey Lance becomes a free agent at season’s end, and he’s buried on the Dallas Cowboys depth chart. It shouldn’t take too much to land him in Detroit.”

The mock trade has the Lions receiving Trey Lance while the Cowboys receive a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2025 seventh-round pick.

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff signed a four-year, $122 million contract extension with the franchise after a dream 2023 season.

Goff just finished a season in which he made history by helping the Lions win two postseason games in a single postseason since 1957. In addition, he guided the Lions to their first conference finals since 1991.

Goff has completed 78 touchdown passes for 12,258 yards and just 27 interceptions in three seasons as a Detroit Lion.
