Kirk isn’t a “crybaby” about the whole wah joke.

After many years of well- and ill-intended mockery, it’s safe to say that Kirk Hammet is in on the joke. Often criticized due to his over-reliance on the wah pedal, especially in Metallica’s later years, Kirk recently shared a good-humored picture on his Instagram.

With the caption “Look over there!!”, the moment reveals the guitarist playing on top of a giant replica of the instantly recognizable Dunlop Cry Baby Wah. As reported by Loudwire, the musician had enough space on the platform to position himself, and his actual wah-pedal on top of the large prop.

Jokes aside, Hammett stressed out that he often doesn’t bring the pedal on board until the solo is already composed, as he did on the iconic “The Black Album”:

“When I really think about the solos on ‘The Black Album’, I came up with all of them within about a week. ‘Enter Sandman,’ I had that one complete by the second or third time we played it. Because when the songs are strong, the solos come easy. And back then, I’d compose a solo and then, if it felt appropriate in the studio, I’d bring in the wah and see if it brought anything more out.”

Kirk Hammet will release his solo debut EP “Portals” on April 23, while there are no reports on new music in the Metallica camp.
