Paul McCartney and The Eagles perform Beatles hit at Jimmy Buffett tribute show

Jimmy Buffet represented a particular type of musician. While many artists act as a reflection of our inner self and put the everyday into beautiful context, Buffett was able to remove people from the everyday.

He could dismiss the mundane, ordinary world with his songs and replace it with one of the endless good times, fun music and bottomless margaritas.

As such, when Buffett passed away in September 2023, there was an outpouring of messages from fans mourning the loss of one of music’s pioneers of fun.

Now, six months later, a full tribute concert called Keep The Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett has been held in his honour, which saw fans enjoy his music as a line-up of all-stars took to the stage to play it.

One of the night’s biggest performances came when The Eagles joined Paul McCartney on stage to perform a moving rendition of ‘Let It Be’.

Before performing, McCartney gave a short speech about Buffett’s impact, not just as a musician but as a person.

“I had the great pleasure of knowing Jimmy,” he said, “And like everyone else on the bill tonight has said, this is one great man.”

McCartney then shared a story from his time with Buffett and when they were on holiday together.

“He was generous, he was funny, he’d done just about everything in his life. I was on holiday with him, and I forgot to bring my guitar, so he had his own guitar strung left-handed for me,” he said, “And then the next time I saw him, he’d had one custom-made left-handed for me.”

McCartney then also took a moment to thank Janie Slagsvol, Buffett’s wife, who was responsible for organising the event that night.

Along with McCartney, stars such as Dave Grohl, Zac Brown, Sheryl Crow, Kenny Chesney, Brandi Carlile, and John Bon Jovi took to the stage in remembrance of Buffett.

Buffett’s band, the Coral Reefer Band, was also in attendance.

McCartney’s rendition of ‘Let It Be’ was a beautiful tribute to the late singer, and with the backing of The Eagles, the instrumentation was as good as ever.

Other performances included Dave Grohl taking to the stage to sing ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, while Sheryl Crow joined the Coral Reefer Band to perform ‘Fins’.

Finally, the concert ended with everyone in attendance playing Buffett’s biggest hit, ‘Margaritaville’.
