The athlete gave her 5.6 million Instagram followers a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the luxury event. Germany’s medal winners were then brought up to the stage before the champagne bottles were opened. The venue in Paris was transformed into a nightclub as Schmidt danced with her athletics pals.

Meanwhile, after racing in the 4x400m mixed relay at the Paris Olympics, German sprinter Jean Paul Bredau questioned the choice to choose Schmidt over his girlfriend – Luna Bulmahn. Bredau eventually apologized for his remarks, but Bulmahn expressed her displeasure on social media and was withdrawn from the squad before the women’s relay.

When asked about Bulmahn’s departure, Schmidt said,  “The decision was not made by us, but by the board and the coaches. That was probably the best decision for the team. We trust the coaches.”
