Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is among several Buffalo Bills players dealing with an injury that has his status for Week 1 in question.

Per Nick Veronica of News 4 Buffalo, Bills head coach Sean McDermott revealed that Damar Hamlin is week-to-week with a hamstring injury. Buffalo opens their 2024 season with a home tilt against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 8.

McDermott said that wide receiver Curtis Samuel (turf toe) and linebacker Baylon Spector (calf) are also week-to-week. The coach added that WR Marques Valdes-Scantling and quarterback Mitch Trubisky are out for several weeks.

Last Thursday, ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg reported that Hamlin was on the sideline for most of practice and had his left leg wrapped up. Afterwards, Hamlin said coaches were being cautious with his “minor” injury.

Damar Hamlin appeared in five games for the Bills last season in a limited role, recording two tackles. He also played in both of Buffalo’s playoff games last season and was used in an unsuccessful fake punt play in their Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs

Hamlin’s return to the field was one of the most inspirational and heartwarming sports stories in recent memory. He suffered cardiac arrest in the Bills’ Week 17, 2022 game against the Cincinnati Bengals and had to be revived by medical personnel before being taken to a hospital.

The 26-year-old Hamlin was released from the hospital nine days later and cleared to return in time for the 2023 NFL season. He has one year remaining on his four-year rookie contract.

No team has gone through more gut-wrenching postseason losses this decade than the Bills. After reaching the AFC Championship in 2020, the Bills followed it up with three straight losses in the Divisional Round.

Buffalo’s mission to redemption begins in less than three weeks, with Kyler Murray’s Cardinals coming to town. We’ll see if this is the year that Josh Allen and company finally break through with a Super Bowl run once and for all.
