Details of Rory McIlroy’s behavior as a husband have surfaced in the wake of the latest development in his relationship with Erica Stoll.

McIlroy filed for divorce from Stoll earlier this month. Since then, rumors of an extra-marital affair involving CBS golf reporter Amanda Balionis have been doing the rounds.

According to documents filed at Palm Beach County State Court in Florida, the marriage is “irretrievably broken,” with the pair asking for joint custody of their three-year-old daughter Poppy.

Last week, the golfer’s team confirmed the two are going their separate ways after seven years of marriage. McIlroy wanted to “ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible.”

Rory McIlroy has refused to speak on the matter, telling reporters very little. However, a report from Us Weekly claims that Stoll could not handle being the wife of a PGA Tour star. Their relationship had begun to take a toll on her.

“A point of contention in Rory’s marriage with Erica was that Erica was lonely in their marriage,” a source cited by said publication was quoted as saying. “Rory was a hard person to be married to.”

Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll Had Been Living “Very Different Lives”

The source also noted that Stoll’s priorities changed after they had Poppy in 2020.

According to the insider, she and McIlroy “were living very different lives the last two years with him on the road, and eventually she had a breaking point.”

As noted above, McIlroy has been linked to Balionis. The popular golf reporter also filed for a divorce from her husband, former NFL quarterback Bryn Renner. Claims of their affair remain unsubstantiated.
