After falling short of NBA titles last season, the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James tried to convince Klay Thompson to join the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason. Ultimately, his move failed as Thompson joined the Dallas Mavericks.

This attempt to bring a key player to the Lakers isn’t unique to LeBron James. Back in 2016, following the Cleveland Cavaliers’ victory over the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, James made a notable effort to convince Kevin Durant to join the NBA champions.

Former NBA player Rashad McCants recently drew attention to this pattern of LeBron’s recruiting attempts. He recently retweeted a news article on “Report: LeBron James’ Cavaliers Pursued Kevin Durant After 2016 Finals” and poked fun at James’ trial.

Is it obvious,” he wrote in the caption with a series of emojis.

In 2016, the Cavaliers, not James, drove the effort to recruit Kevin Durant. Similar to the situation with Thompson, this attempt also did not succeed. Durant joined the Golden State Warriors in 2016 and won two NBA titles with them.

Lakers Eye Mavericks’ Star Luka Doncic as Future Target

LeBron James has recently signed a contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, but his long-term future with the team remains uncertain. Hence, the Lakers are planning for the future by eyeing another NBA star. On a recent episode of The Ringer’s The Mismatch, NBA analyst Kevin O’Connor discussed the Lakers’ interest in Luka Doncic.

I’ve reported on this podcast and on The Ringer how they have their sights set for Luka [Doncic] in the future. We’ll see if that works out. Dallas just made the Finals. Dallas is looking better than ever with their supporting cast. That may not work out. But the Lakers, by not trading their future picks, clearly they’re still thinking long-term at this point,” O’Connor said.

Doncic played a key role in leading the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals last season, although they ultimately lost to the Boston Celtics. It’ll remain to be seen if the Lakers ultimately can end up adding Doncic after James’ retirement.

Basketball fans have witnessed several rivalries among players and teams. One such rivalry occurred between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers as they faced off against each other in the NBA finals four times from the 2015 to 2018 seasons. A notable rivalry developed between Draymond Green and LeBron James during these matchups.

Despite the fact that they are now good friends, James and Green entertained their fans with intense rivalry during face-offs. In addition to James, the Warriors forward, who recently criticized Rudy Gobert, also had a heated moment with a top NBA insider.

During a recent appearance on the Jefe Island podcast, NBA insider Chris Haynes revealed a story about his intense altercation with Green.

“So, I took the job, and I remember going into the locker room for the first time with the Warriors. Draymond was like, ‘I don’t trust you, bro.’ I was like, ‘What do you mean you don’t trust me?’ He said, ‘You a Cavs spy. LeBron, and they sent you over here to spy on us. We ain’t messing with y’all, & Imma make sure nobody talk with you.’ He was dead serious bro. I couldn’t believe it. I’m like, ‘Dray, I’m just a reporter, bro. I don’t have no rooting interest — I’m not, bro.” Haynes said.

During his rivalry with James, the Warriors forward accused NBA insider Haynes of being a spy for James. Green believed that Haynes was passing information about the Warriors to James. As a result, he instructed everyone on the team to cease all contact with Haynes.

Draymond Green Sparks Speculation About Future Team-Up with LeBron James

James and Green are now good friends. They were recently spotted having a blast, dancing to songs by Kendrick Lamar and Drake at a party in Cannes. However, during an appearance on the Point Game podcast in May 2024, the Warriors star mentioned the possibility of him and the Los Angeles Lakers superstar teaming up in the future.

“Unless Bron comes to Golden State, I don’t really see that happening. For me, personally, if the Warriors will have me until I’m done and I tie my shoestrings in the knot and toss them things above the telephone wire, that’s where I’ll be.” Green said.

Green mentioned that the collaboration would only happen if James joined the Warriors. However, that didn’t happen because the all-time points leader signed a contract extension with the Lakers this offseason. It could have become a mesmerizing moment for basketball fans if it had happened.
