Mo’nique on Why Taraji P Henson’s Pay Inequality Plea Got Traction & Hers Didn’t: “It Was The Messenger”!***

Mo’Nique did not hold back on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast.

The comedian said it was “painful to watch” Taraji P Henson in distress over the disparity in pay for black women while on The Color Purple press run, and revealed she and Taraji had a similar conversation over a decade ago. When asked why Taraji’s recent comments got traction and hers didn’t despite similar sentiments, she said although their message was the same, “the messenger” was different.

“I should just be grateful I got invited to the party. You a big fat black woman—how dare you be the one,” Mo’Nique told Shannon.

Mo’Nique also believes she received backlash for speaking out against Hollywood’s pay inequality because she called the names of black entertainment “heroes,” such as Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, and Lee Daniels, whom she claimed “blackballed” her. She acknowledged she wasn’t the first one to call out being undervalued as a black woman in Hollywood and made it clear that she adores Taraji./.
