Recently, Algerian female boxer Imane Khelif filed a complaint about “online harassment”, specifically naming American billionaire Elon Musk.

According to the Dailymail, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has named billionaire Elon Musk and British writer and screenwriter, Joanne Rowling (JK Rowling) with accusations of online harassment related to his gender.

After winning the gold medal in the women’s 66 kg boxing event at the Paris Olympics, boxer Imane Khelif (Algeria) sent a complaint to the authorities in France.

Imane Khelif claims she was harassed and insulted on social media platform X during her time competing in the 2024 Olympics. Among them, Elon Musk and Joanne Rowling publicly suspected that Khelif was transgender and said she should not compete in the female category.

Speaking to reporters, Nabil Boudi, Imane Khelif’s lawyer, confirmed that the Tesla tycoon and the Harry Potter author both committed “serious acts of online harassment.” Imane Khelif’s lawyer also said that the boxer will fight for justice, dignity and honor.

In France, those convicted of online harassment face between two and five years in prison or a fine of between £26,000 and £39,000. Those convicted of online hate speech could face fines of between £64,000 and £214,000.

Khelif is the most controversial boxer at the 2024 Olympics due to her male chromosomes. Last year, she failed a gender test at an International Boxing Association (IBA) tournament, reportedly because she has XY chromosomes.

And things got more attention at the 2024 Olympics when Imane Khelif forced her opponent, female boxer Angela Carini (Italy), to give up after only 46 seconds, sharing that she had never received such a painful blow.

Shortly after the event was widely reported by the media, Harry Potter author Joanne Rowling wrote that she saw “a man punching a woman.” Then former swimmer Riley Gaines wrote: “Men don’t belong in women’s sports. I support Angela Carini,” and Elon Musk later retweeted the post, commenting: “Agreed.”

Regarding the suspicions about Imane Khelif’s gender, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently confirmed that Khelif and another boxer, Lin Yu-ting (Taiwan, China), competing in women’s boxing is completely legal because their passports show them as female.
