He was first mentioned towards the end of the Wano Country arc by Eustass Kid. So far, there is very limited information available about Hinokizu, all of which has been covered here.

Hinokizu is considered a legendary figure in One Piece, mainly because there is almost no information about his origins or his abilities. Even characters such as Lafitte, Blackbeard, and Eustass Kid were in awe of Hinokizu.

The only way to identify the Hinokizu is with the help of the burn scar. It is possible that Hinokizu received the scar while fighting an opponent. Due to this reason, many believe that Jaguar D. Saul could be Hinokizu, as he was left in Ohara while it was still in flames. The fire could have easily scarred him and led to him receiving the name Hinokizu.

It is said that Hinokizu travels on a black ship, which is considered an ill omen by people. In Japanese culture, black ships were feared by people. They were associated with the Western expeditioners who came to Japan for trade. Some people were more open-minded, but most were terrified of them.

So, encountering Hinokizu’s ship is treated as a bad sign. Since there have been rumors about the ship, it is safe to say that some people have survived an encounter with Hinokizu. This makes it clear that Hinokizu is not completely infallible.

A character with the same level of importance as Hinokizu is bound to be powerful. Since he is likely located somewhere in the New World, it is safe to say that he can probably use Haki. But whether he has access to just two or all three remains unknown.

Aside from having Haki, it is possible that Hinokizu has a Devil Fruit power. According to Lafitte, the man with the burn scar is able to create whirlpools wherever he goes. This is a very dangerous ability, especially considering the sea is the main mode of transport. These whirlpools can easily destroy a ship, making it impossible to approach Hinokizu’s all-black vessel. It has not been confirmed to be a Devil Fruit ability, but Lafitte has implied that it could be one. Oda will likely disclose the truth behind Hinokizu’s power.

The only clue related to Hinokizu’s appearance is that he has a burn scar somewhere on his body. There is no information about his race. It is unknown whether he is a human, a Lunarian, a Fish-Man, or someone else.

But there is a possibility that Hinokizu is a Giant. They are an ancient race that is capable of living for more than a hundred years. They are physically stronger than all the other races in One Piece. The main indication that Hinokizu may be a giant is that he is in possession of one of the Road Poneglyphs. The ginormous steles are impossible to break, and they cannot be carried by a human. However, a giant could possibly move a Poneglyph from its place. This adds further fuel to the speculation that Saul is Hinokizu.

Key To Finding One Piece

Any pirate seeking to reach Laugh Tale and claim the treasure of Gol D. Roger needs to find all the Road Poneglyphs. Without the four Road Poneglyphs, it is impossible to locate Laugh Tale. The only Road Poneglyph missing is the one that was previously located on Fish-Man Island.

Somehow, Hinokizu managed to move to another location. This implies that he has the physical strength to move something so heavy. It is also possible that Hinokizu is aware of the Road Poneglyph’s importance. So, he doesn’t want it to fall into the wrong hands. He wants to personally check the motives and strength of the pirate who will surpass Gol D. Roger.

Who Is He?

There are a few names that have been associated with Hinokizu, but the two most common ones are Jaguar D. Saul and Scopper Gaban. Jaguar D. Saul meets a lot of criteria that make him the leading candidate. He is a Giant with insane strength, so he can lift heavy objects without any problem. He was last seen on Ohara, which was clad in flames due to the Buster Call.

Scopper Gaban, on the other hand, used to be a member of the Roger Pirates. So, he knew about the Road Poneglyph on Fish-Man Island. It is possible that he might have had it moved. Fans will have to wait to find out whether Hinokizu is one of them or someone else.
