Europe’s most exciting tournament Euro 2024 is getting closer than ever, French superstar Mbappe claims that winning the Euro championship is more difficult than going all the way in the World Cup.

“In my opinion, this is a more difficult tournament than the World Cup,” the Real Madrid striker said, according to The Mirror. “It’s difficult to start from the group stage. It’s a competition we haven’t won in 24 years, a huge competition.”

Speaking ahead of Copa America 2024, Argentine great Lionel Messi responded to comments made by his former PSG teammate.

Messi told ESPN: “Obviously, the Euro Cup is a very important tournament with the best teams, but it doesn’t have Argentina, the three-time world champions, Brazil, the five-time world champions and Uruguay, the two-time world champions.  There are too many world champions to say that it’s the most difficult. In general, the World Cup is where the best world champions are. Everyone wants to be world champion.”

That was Messi’s tough interview answer after winning the 2022 World Cup with Argentina. Perhaps Mbappe just wants to complete his career trophy collection after winning the World Cup and Nations League with the French team. In an interview with CNN, Mbappe said:

“I want to win the Euros. I have to be honest. I won the World Cup. I won the Nations League. That’s the only thing that comes to mind. I really want to win this. It’s my first game as captain, so it’s really important for me and it’s always important for the country and we want them to be proud of us. It’s another chance to write history for my country.”
