The Unbearable Suffering of Bartholomew Kuma in One Piece

Ever since he was born, Kuma has had to go through a lot of sadness and suffering. He and his family were enslaved because they belonged to the almost extinct Buccaneer race. Later on, his parents were killed, and Kuma lost all hope, but he was saved by Ivankov and Ginny, who helped him escape the clutches of the Celestial Dragons.

After escaping slavery, Kuma helped the people of Sorbet Kingdom by removing their pain (using his Devil Fruit) and taking it on himself. However, this was just the start of Kuma’s suffering. It was later revealed that Ginny was captured and sold to Celestial Dragons, who experimented on her and impregnated her for future experiments.

However, Ginny was diagnosed with a disease called Saphire Scale, and her daughter was left with Kuma, who took her in and cared for her like his own daughter. Soon, Bonney also got the same disease as her mother, and Kuma had to travel the entire world to search for a cure.

Ultimately, the cure was offered by Dr. Vegapunk, who wanted to use Kuma’s blood for experimentation. But St. Jaygarcia Saturn heard the entire conversation and forced Kuma to become a mindless cyborg and stay away from his daughter if he wanted to save her life. Without even giving it a second thought, Kuma agreed to it.

Fans Compare Kuma’s Suffering with Guts From Berserk

Just like Kuma, Guts has also suffered a lot. He was born from a corpse and was treated like a bad omen during his childhood. Not only that, he was physically and mentally abused. His friend and most trusted ally betrayed him and even tormented his companion. On top of that, the armor he wore was brutal in itself.
