In this anime sword-slinging Demon Slayers use bold techniques to slice apart flesh-eating demons and fight back against their demon blood arts.

To survive in battle against the likes of Rui and Daki, Demon Slayers employ many special breathing techniques based on various elements such as thunder, water, fire, and even insects. In return, the demons employ devastating blood arts, some of which can even butcher a Hashira. Demon Slayer‘s best special attacks have to be seen to be believed.

10Akaza’s Destructive Death Can Obliterate Any Foe

Akaza bares his teeth while fighting Kyojuro in Demon Slayer.

Akaza is the Upper Moon 3, and he has a truly terrifying blood demon art to his name. In his climactic battle against Kyojuro Rengoku, Akaza demonstrated the use of his Destructive Death technique, which includes special moves such as Compass Needle. Anyone who gets close to him will get shredded.

Akaza’s Destructive Death unleashes a rapid flurry of hard-hitting punches and strikes, and only a master Hashira can last more than a few seconds against this onslaught. Tanjiro was certain that he would have been easily killed by such a special move if Akaza had fought him instead.

9Kyogai’s Drumming Can Slash Foes From Afar

Kyogai snarls in anger in Demon Slayer.

Kyogai used to rank among the Twelve Demon Moons, or the Kizuki, but he got booted out in favor of stronger members. Even so, Kyogai has a pretty powerful and interesting special attack to his name, mainly based on the tsuzumi drums attached to his body. He can use his Drumming technique simply by striking the drums.

Kyogai’s drums sends deadly slash attacks at his foes, usually three in a row, to take them down from medium range. If necessary, Kyogai can also tap his drums to rotate the room, disorienting his opponent before he can finish them with another slash attack.

8Shinobu Kocho’s Butterfly Dance: Caprice Poisons Enemies To Death

The petite Shinobu Kocho lacks the physical strength to slice off a demon’s head, so she innovated a deadly solution. Shinobu always coats her slender nichirin sword in wisteria poison that’s concentrated enough to kill any demon who comes into contact with it, a unique special attack among the nine Hashira.

Shinobu was once seen using the Butterfly Dance: Caprice special attack to leap at a demon and then stab it multiple times to inject her poison. It worked instantly, and her demonic foe was slain before it even realized what was happening. Even the Moons must respect this kind of power.

7Daki’s Eight Layered Obi Slash Can Attack From Any Angle

Daki is the arrogant, tricky Upper Moon 6, or rather, she and her brother Gyutaro share that title. Daki rarely fights, but if she must, then she can overwhelm any foe with her belt-based technique. Her belts aren’t just accessories – they are ultra-sharp weapons that can move around freely in the air.

Daki can use four long belt arms, similar to Marvel’s Doctor Octopus. She can take it to the next level with her Eight Layered Obi Slash technique to strike at her foes from different directions. This special attack is difficult to defend against, and it can also block, grab, or snag the opponent as necessary.

6Gyutaro’s Blood Manipulation Can Poison An Enemy To Death

Gyutaro fights Tanjiro and Tengen in Demon Slayer

Shinobu isn’t the only Demon Slayer fighter with venomous special attacks. Daki’s beloved demon brother Gyutaro can use his Blood Manipulation to form deadly scythes to slash his foes from any range, and he never runs out of blood, either. He can outlast any human foe with his regenerating blood supply.

Gyutaro’s blood-based scythes are even deadlier with their poisonous qualities, and even a Hashira will soon succumb to that unforgiving venom. It’s fortunate, then, that Tengen Uzui had been trained to resist powerful poisons as a shinobi. Otherwise, his death would have been certain.

5Zenitsu’s First Form: Thunderclap and Flash Is Dazzling

Zenitsu from Demon Slayer

Zenitsu Agatsuma might annoy everyone with his loud complaints and cowardice, but when everything is on the line, he always pulls through. Passing out from fear actually works to his advantage, since Zenitsu can only use Thunderclap and Flash when asleep.

With this special move, Zenitsu rushes forth with lightning speed, and in one move, he can take a demon’s head right off with his blade. It’s amazingly effective and fun to watch, and no demon can move fast enough to react to it or dodge it. Zenitsu might make some improved versions soon, too.

4Inosuke’s Fifth Fang: Crazy Cutting Deals Serious Damage

Inosuke's fifth form in Demon Slayer.

Inosuke’s best special attack thus far in Demon Slayer is Fifth Fang: Crazy Cutting. He put this special move to good use in the Mugen Train movie, such as when he slashed apart Enmu’s real body from the inside and shredded his innards. Enmu stood no chance against it.

Fifth Fang: Crazy Cutting involves Inosuke leaping into the air or falling from a height, then slashing at everything around him to create a 360 degree technique that no enemy can avoid. It was with Crazy Cutting and Tanjiro’s own devastating blows that Enmu was finally defeated for good.

3Tanjiro’s Hinokami Kagura Unleashes Incredible Fire

Tanjiro gains better control over the Hinokami Kagura against Daki in Demon Slayer

Tanjiro Kamado is already impressive with his water breathing techniques such as Constant Flux, but so far in the Demon Slayer anime, his best special technique is definitely Hinokami Kagura. This special move taps into Tanjiro’s ancestral affinity for not water, but fire.

Hinokami Kagura puts serious strain on Tanjiro’s body when used, but in return, he can unleash incredible flame-based powers that rival Kyojuro Rengoku’s moves. Tanjiro smartly underwent training so he can endure more than one use of this amazing technique in battle.

2Kyojuro Rengoku’s Ninth Form: Rengoku Is Creates A Dragon

The famous Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku, stood up to the mighty Akaza and almost won. He can use quite a few aggressive flame breathing techniques in battle, and his final special attack, Rengoku, is really something. Even Akaza fears this power.

The Rengoku special attack is actually similar to thunder breathing, since it involves the user charging straight forward with extreme speed and power to dispatch a foe. Of course, Kyojuro’s move is much stronger than Zenitsu’s, and for visual flair, it resembles a Japanese-style dragon made of flame.

1Tengen’s Fourth Form: Constant Resounding Slashes Goes Out With A Bang

tengen attack

The Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, prides himself on being flashy despite being a trained ninja. During the desperate battle against Daki and Gyutaro, he employed a wide variety of flashy moves, including the incredible Fourth Form: Constant Resounding Slashes. Only he would think up a technique like this.

With that special attack, Tengen will toss up some small explosives, then rapidly slash his two swords through the air and set off those mini-bombs to both protect himself and deal damage to his enemy. That, combined with the sword strokes, should take down any demon with ease.
