Strictly Come Dancing’s Sam Quek has risked sparking a ‘fix row’ after hinting she was going to have dance lessons before appearing on the show.

The GB hockey sensation, 35, will be taking part in this year’s series on the BBC but has previously teased she was going to get lessons.

She will join the likes of Nick Knowles, Paul Merson and Pete Wicks on the show which has been hit by and abuse and bullying scandal in recent months.

Sporting star Sam appeared on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity in 2016 with former Strictly pro Ola Jordan.

And in an interview with HELLO! after the show she divulged that she and husband Tom Mairs were going to do dance classes.

Sam said: ‘I got to know Ola and James over in Australia so they gave us the dancing bug, and Wayne Bridge and Frankie knew how to dance.

‘It’s a good thing for us to get out and get more active rather than socialising on the sofa, so we’re going to start taking classes on the corner.’

A representative for Sam has been contacted by MailOnline for comment.

Sam was announced to be taking part in Strictly’s on Monday’s episode of The One Show, alongside Nick and Paul.

Sam, MBE, is a television personality and former field hockey player. She was also a team captain on A Question of Sport.

She played as a defender for both the England and Great Britain teams, wearing squad number 13, and won gold as part of the British team at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

She said on the show: ‘I am so relieved it is out there now it has been hard to keep a secret!

‘The rumours were spreading and I had to lie! I am used to dancing on a girls night out but I will give it my all. I hope to get to Blackpool!’

DIY SOS star Nick, 61, Sam, and former footballer Paul, 56, appeared on Monday night’s The One Show as the announcement was made.

Presenter Nick said: ‘I danced in Rio last year doing an Argentine Tango and I thought this is great. My elder sister was a ballroom dancer so I am the least talented person in the family!

‘I am going to really go for it I will throw myself at it 100 per cent!’

Nick is a television presenter, writer and musician. He is best known for his presenting roles on the BBC, including game shows Who Dares Wins, Break the Safe and 5-Star Family Reunion.

Meanwhile Paul is an former professional footballer, manager, commentator and sports television pundit for Sky Sports.

Originally a forward, Merson found success as an attacking midfielder and playmaker later in his career.

He said on The One Show: ‘I won’t worry about it until it starts but when it does I will be nervous – I have only danced three times in my life. But I will have a go – I play to win and it won’t be through lack of trying.’

Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri, JLS star JB Gill and opera singer Wynne Evans are the other big names taking part.

The show will return in the autumn to the BBC.
