Piers Morgan has warned that Netflix, Richard Gadd and the TV show’s production have a “big problem” on their hands over their depiction of Martha in Baby Reindeer.
It comes after Piers, 59, had a sit-down chat with the individual, who The Mirror has chosen not to name or photograph, last week on his Uncensored show. The woman insists that she is the inspiration behind stalker Martha in the show.
During the chat, the woman said she wanted to do the interview to “set the record straight” over what she claims is her depiction as Donnny’s (Gadd) stalker character Martha. The show is a dramatisation of events experienced by Richard Gadd, the creator and star.
Speaking on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg today, Piers pointed out a major issue with the show and how they had ended it. “think it’s a big problem for Netflix and for Richard Gadd and Clerkenwell Films who made this because they say unequivocally at the start, ‘This is a true story,'” he said. “And the denouement (if you haven’t watched it, spoiler alert, turn away now) of the series involves the stalker in court, admitting to her crimes and being given an eight month prison sentence.

“Now when [woman claiming she is the real life Martha] came on Piers Morgan Uncensored, she was emphatic that she’s never been to court over this, letalone plead guilty, and never been to prison. Nobody can produce any evidence that she has and if that is the case and it turns out she hasn’t. Then the other part of this is that failure of duty of care by Netflix to not allow her to be identified, which she was instantly because they used literal postings from her Twitter feed in the actual series.”
During her interview with Piers Morgan earlier this month, the woman, 58, was grilled on scenes in the TV show where Martha fired off an astounding 41,071 emails, 744 tweets, dispatched 46 Facebook messages, penned 106 pages of letters and left around 350 hours of voicemail messages.

After receiving backlash and accused of being exploitative for interviewing her, Piers explained his decision to invite her on the show. “She has a right to have her say and was happy to come on the show, I tried to be very fair and balanced and tried to get to the truth,” he said.
However, Piers confirmed that the woman will not be receiving the one-million-pounds she has demanded for appearing on his show. “No, she’s not going to get £1 million/ We gave her the same amount, I want to say, 95% of all our guests. We don’t discuss that but we paid for her to have a nice haircut, [to be collected in] a car, and everything else. I think we’ve performed our duty of care and we’ve stayed in touch with her since.
“She’s given some lively, provocative interviews but when she came to the studio she was actually relatively normal, I didn’t get any sign of somebody who I thought was mentally unwell.” However, despite Piers praising his own team’s duty of care, he slammed Gadd and Netflix.
Speaking to Lorraine following his interview, he said: “The key question is, after watching the series and my interview, is it actually a true story? Did she go to prison, is she a convicted stalker?
“As I sit here Lorraine so far, there is no actual evidence that she has ever been in court – so we have to wait and see.” Piers then pointed out how easy it was for internet sleuths to track the woman down, saying: “Internet sleuths typed parts of messages into her Twitter account and came up with the same phraseology. I think [Netflix] failed in their duty of care to [the woman].”
