Kevin Spacey has claimed that he had “heard a message” of support from King Charles.
Spacey, 64, was accused of sexual misconduct in 2017 but was later found not guilty in a 2022 lawsuit. He was subsequently acquitted of sexual assault charges in a separate London trial in 2023. However, he is due to face a civil trial in the UK again, which is expected to be early
next year following a lawsuit by another man who claimed Spacey sexually assaulted him. The actor has denied all allegations made against him.
In June 2016, the then Prince Charles issued Spacey an honorary knighthood for services to theatre. The actor was presented the prestigious award by the future Monarch during a private ceremony at Clarence House. Although Kevin was able to use the initials KBE alongside his
name, as a recipient of the award outside of the Commonwealth, he was not permitted to be styled as Sir Kevin. Just one year after the royal invitation, allegations of sexual assault emerged.

During an interview with Piers Morgan, Spacey claims he hasn’t heard directly from the King but he had heard a “message” from the Monarch after the allegations came to light. “No, I haven’t heard from him directly, no,” he told Piers, but when asked if he’d heard through
“other people”, he responded: “That may be true. I heard a message, yes, and I’m very, very grateful for that.” When asked if it was a message of support, he stated: “Yes.”
But when Spacey admitted to Piers that it “meant a lot to him”, he later added: “I don’t want to drag him into all of this.” He later stated that he had written a letter to the King but had not yet sent it. The Mirror has approached Buckingham Palace for comment.
During the interview, Spacey admitted wrongdoing to Piers and stated that he had acted inappropriately towards people. When asked about his “bad behaviour”, Kevin responded that he had been “Pushing the boundaries”. He later added to the TalkTV broadcaster: “Being too
handsy, touching someone sexually in a way that I didn’t know at the time they didn’t want.” Piers replied: “Some people would say that is criminal, that if you grope people in a sexual way against their wishes, that that is a crime.”
“I agree that the word ‘grope’ is a very odd word,” Kevin said, adding: “I personally, I have caressed people, I have been gentle with people, that is the way that I am. You’re making a pass at someone, you don’t want to be aggressive. You want to be gentle. You want to see if they’re going to respond positively. I think the word itself is not a word that I associate with my experience.”
Later in the dramatic interview, Spacey broke down into tears as he revealed he had been forced to sell his home and was left on the brink of bankruptcy. Having previously split his time between the UK and America, Kevin revealed that his home in Baltimore is currently being auctioned.
He explained: “Well, it’s funny you asked that question, because this week, where I have been living in Baltimore, is being foreclosed on. My house is being sold at auction. So I have to go back to Baltimore and put all my things in storage. Well I mean, you have some sense of legal bills. I still owe a lot of legal bills that I have not been able to pay,” he stated, adding that he was in a “considerable” amount of debt before confirming the cost was “many millions”.
In 2022, he was sued by a man at the High Cout in London who claimed he had been sexually assaulted by Spacey and later suffered “psychiatric damage”. The civil claim was paused when Spacey was charged and later acquitted in criminal proceedings of a number of sexual offences alleged by four men between 2001 and 2013.
At the hearing in May, a court heard that Spacey’s lawyers had been due to file a written defence after the end of the criminal proceedings but had failed to do so. A default judgment was subsequently entered against Spacey in the civil case on his liability earlier this year. Adam Speker KC, for Spacey, made a bid to set aside the default ruling, describing the failure to file the paperwork as a “genuine error by his solicitor”.
The barrister told the hearing in London it would be unfair to proceed to a damages hearing and the contested allegations should be taken to trial. Lifting the default civil judgment, Judge David Cook said that the lawyers had “quite frankly mucked up”. He said: “There can be no
excuse in my view for the date being overlooked. The simple fact of the matter is this is a claim where the defendant’s solicitors have made an error. In my view, that error should not be visited upon the defendant.”
