Kate Garraway is set to be absent from Good Morning Britain on Thursday, with her replacement having been unveiled ahead of the upcoming episode of the show.

The presenter, 57, has been known to feature as a lead presenter on Thursday mornings, though she has at times been in the role of the newsreader if Susanna Reid has hosted. It’s however been revealed that Kate won’t be on the show tomorrow, either as a presenter or newsreader.

The Mirror understands that Ranvir Singh and Ed Balls will be hosting the show together on Thursday morning instead. They are set to be joined on the ITV show by their colleague Sean Fletcher, who will be acting as the newsreader.

The reason for Kate’s absence hasn’t been announced but she’s expected to return on Friday. It’s the latest instance of absence on the show, with Kate having occasionally been absent in recent months, including just a few weeks ago.

Her upcoming absence is said to have first been announced on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, according to the Sun. The outlet previously reported that it had been shared on the latest episode that Ranvir would replace Kate.

Kate has worked on Good Morning Britain since 2014, which is the year that it launched. The show celebrated its tenth anniversary last month, including having shared a montage of moments. Kate and her colleagues featured in the video, alongside a couple of former hosts such as Piers Morgan.

The anniversary came shortly before Kate celebrated her birthday. Her former colleague Ben Shephard was among those who marked the occasion earlier this month. Her birthday is said to have coincided with the tenth anniversary of her having joined the radio station Smooth.

It marked Kate’s first birthday since her late husband Derek Draper passed away, aged 56, in January. Derek had made headlines over his health in recent years, including having been hospitalised for over a year in the Covid pandemic.

Kate has since reflected on her birthday, with her having written about the special occasion in a post on Instagram recently. Alongside a clip of some celebrations, she wrote in a message to her followers: “Well yesterday was another one of those sad 1st’s – my first birthday since Derek’s passing.”

She further commented in the caption of the post shared earlier this month on the platform: “Woke up feeling so sad & thought well I can either cry all day or celebrate life as he did so well. And thanks to wonderful friends it worked! See you on [the show] tomorrow from 6 – happy bank holiday weekend everyone!”
