Kate Garraway sparked concern with Good Morning Britain viewers as she was absent from the programme after reportedly dashing to hospital.

On Friday (July 19), Kate was replaced by Charlotte Hawkins and Rob Rinder, who stepped up to present the show in her absence. It comes after Kate is said to be holding a bedside vigil for her father Gordon, who has reportedly suffered a suspected stroke and heart attack.

Kate is said to have rushed out of work just moments after GMB finished filming on Tuesday after hearing that her father had collapsed, and rushed to Cornwall to be with him. A source told The Sun: “Very sadly, Kate’s father collapsed earlier this week while staying, along with her mum and her brother in Cornwall.

“It was incredibly frightening as he was found unconscious and immediately taken to hospital. It seems likely that he’s had a stroke and possibly a heart attack as well – doctors are still doing tests.”

The insider added: “He remains in hospital and is currently stable but, understandably, it’s given the whole family a terrible scare and they are praying he can recover.”

GMB viewers turned to social media to question her absence, with one writing: “Guessing Kate’s off #GMB because of her dad… sending love.”

The tragic news comes shortly after the death of Kate’s husband Derek Draper, who suffered from long Covid-19 and was left in a coma from the virus. He left behind Kate and their two children Darcey and Billy.

Kate took time off work at the time, telling fans: “I look forward to waking up with you very soon again on Good Morning Britain to celebrate life in all its wonder and challenge again.

“I hope you forgive me for taking some time to be at home. My family is so grateful that we could be with our dearest Derek in his final moments, something not all get to share.

“Maybe you too are going through grief yourself or have done in the past, I send love and support for you too. We are taking time to heal ourselves now that Darcey and Billy know their daddy is at peace and free from pain and struggle.”
